**Perfect Pelt Guide** Get a clean head shot on a three star Squirrel using a bow with small game arrows equipped.
The Hunting Request challenge can be started by visiting any Post Office in the latter portion of the game and observing the first list displayed on the notification board. All requested animals will only be accepted if they have a perfect pelt.
This video covers the three most reliable spawn locations (in my experience) for American Red, Western Gray, and Black Squirrels in RDR2 story mode - also quite reliable for RDO / Red Dead Online as well. All 3 species will spawn at the provided locations - it's just luck of the draw as to which ones you find.
They can be discovered at all times of the day and night, however definitely seem most active in the mid to late afternoon
If you have trouble getting your desired Squirrel to spawn, I suggest setting up a camp a few clicks away from the spawn location and sleeping until the following day before riding back and trying again. If you hit bad RNG you may have to do this up to 5-10 times to get it to work for your desired purposes. Reloading your save and/or game can also be used to try and reset the animals in game.
Be sure to explore a small radius of the surrounding area thoroughly before resetting and trying again as it's exact location varies depending on conditions.
Also, be sure to clear out any legendary animals or random encounters in the area as they can mess with the spawns as well.
