The Hive Rooms are a rehearsal and recording studio facility in Horley, Surrey (near Gatwick airport) offering spacious, fully equipped rehearsal rooms (including gear by Blackstar, Ashdown, Pearl, DB Technologies and Allen & Heath), a large preproduction room (ideal for larger rehearsals, video shoots and the like) and a new recording studio which opened in September 2019. A second, larger recording studio will be completed and open for business in early-mid 2020 and you can see the current build in this video.
Clients include Nik Kershaw, Cats In Space, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Freak Power, The Vapors and Skinny Lister to name a few, as well as a host of regular local (and not so local!) bands.
There is an onsite shop, selling strings, leads, drum sticks and all the things you need for your rehearsals and gigs, is now online!

This is an archive interview that we filmed in Glasgow with Calum Malcolm, Scottish record producer, recording engineer and musician best known for his super HiFi records with artists such as Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout, Simple Minds, Orange Juice, Mark Knopfler etc...
Nigel Jopson chats with Calum about his early days in recording, building and running his own recording studio (that he ran for 24 years - and is still running under new ownership), orchestral recording and much more.
The picture quality and sound quality is pretty poor. We hope to later extract the original footage from the DV tapes but while we bake those we thought this interview gave a good insight in to Calums take on the recording industry back in 2006/7. We filmed this interview at The Mixing Rooms, a new recording studio in the centre of Glasgow that is now in different hands and hope to pay the studio a visit to see how its changed when we can.
