Chinese studios, historically known for mobile and free-to-play games, are now expanding into the AAA console and PC market as a record-breaking 60 Chinese companies are attending Gamescom, the world's largest video game event held annually in Cologne, Germany.
Major Chinese developers like Hypergryph, NetEase, miHoYo and Tencent are showcasing their largest-ever lineup of premium video games, featuring major titles like Where Winds Meet and Arknights: Endfield.
Chinese developers took home two major awards at the event, with NetEase's Where Winds Meet winning Best Mobile Game while Shanghai-based Hypergryph stole the spotlight by securing the Best Booth Consumer Award for their display of Arknights: Endfield, a highly successful 3D real-time action RPG that launched globally earlier this year.
China is the world's second-largest gaming market, generating $137.8 billion in revenue, trailing closely behind the United States.
