In recent years, water is becoming more scarce, and a lot of cotton growers are redesigning their farm to improve the irrigation efficiency. This can involve moving large volumes of soil, which could potentially lead to more variability across the field. Other farm design changes, such as reconfiguring rows, can lead to historical compaction issues also impacting crop uniformity. Soil scientist Guna Nachimuthu (NSW DPI) explains some management options to reduce the impact of these changes on crop productivity.
