Fisheries mismanagement has resulted in them also being critically depleted and overfished for the last 30 years. Continuing to fish a species that is languishing in a depleted state is government-sanctioned overfishing and has community-level impacts that can’t be ignored.
84% of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians support pausing the fishery until the population can recover.
