Seaside Heights is one of the most recognizable names on the Jersey Shore—and Sandy nearly wiped it off the map. Casino Pier was almost entirely consumed by the sea, and one of its roller coasters ended up submerged offshore in an image that became one of the defining photographs of the storm. Now the town has set a near-impossible deadline: get the boardwalk and pier open by Memorial Day weekend. Without that summer season, the businesses that depend on it may not survive another year. Everything is riding on a race against the calendar for construction.
