I'm still noticing a lot of people around the web asking the same question "Why is Lost Ark region locked to Korea only?" Especially after today when a big ban wave (technically not a ban) hit a large number of players today including many big YouTube content creators and Twitch streamers.
So why is the game region locked and their forcing resets to deny non-Korean players from playing the game? The answer is simple, China. If you've played a few MMOs, you know what I mean. China is MMO cancer and their bots will swarm in on a popular game to try and establish a real money trading business. This causes server problems, chat spam advertising gold, and often cause the ingame market to quickly inflate and make it difficult to afford items.
I've seen it as far back as Final Fantasy XI and their influence was devastating for years until SquareEnix finally started to fight back and ban hundreds and thousands of accounts. Once the bots and gold farmers were getting banned, the state of the game improved greatly and saved the game imo.
Lost Ark now is the biggest and explosively popular MMORPG to hit the market in years. It's only open beta, but already they can be seen running bots and the server queue times have increased dramatically over the past few days.
In the interest of protecting the game and providing the best experience for Korean players, a Stove access reset was initiated forcing everyone to verify they are infact Korean. The intention wasn't simply to ban non-Korean streamers (who were break Terms of Service anyway), but to try and improve the experience for Korean players by denying access especially to Chinese gold farmers and their hundreds, perhaps thousands of accounts.
I'm saying this because too many people are lashing out at Smilegate for this when they are doing exactly what they should be doing. By locking the region and forcing reverification, it protects and cleanses the servers of Chinese bots, makes queue times shorter, and protects the players from the corruption of real money trading activity.
Of course they'll come back with new accounts and better bots, but as long as Smilegate keeps fighting, their influence should be minimal. I only hope we'll have the tools when the game comes west to protect our servers as well.

No full release date yet announced or western release news other than "we're discussing it" replies from the devs. They seem keen to focus on the Korean release, and then work on localizing it for other regions after that. So when will it comes west? That's anybodies guess. In the meantime keep and eye open here for more Lost Ark news and gameplay here on the channel soon!
