🧦 Atypical Mid-Week: The Sock Challenge!
Welcome to Atypical Mid-Week – The Sock Challenge! 🧦🧶
This is a fun, ongoing sock-knitting challenge where Sam’s Yarn Basket and Froggywentaknitting take turns hosting and we see just how many different socks we can create!
Each month, we'll be using our Sock Challenge flip books to create our socks. The books contain 20 different cuffs, 20 legs, 20 heels and 20 toes, and the fun begins when we let the “Wheel of Future Socks” randomly decide which combinations we'll use!
Will we get a beautiful combination?
Will the choices work together?
Will we absolutely love it… or wonder what on earth the wheel has done to us? 😂
We'll find out together!
🎡 How Does the Sock Challenge Work?
At the beginning of each month's challenge, the chat gets involved!
We'll:
🧦 Choose between Book 1 or Book 2 – the chat gets to decide!
🎡 Spin the Wheel of Future Socks to randomly select our cuff, leg, heel and toe combinations.
📖 Reveal what our finished sock should look like using the flip books.
💬 Discuss the choices with everyone watching – do you like it, love it or hate it?
🧶 Work through the challenge together and share our progress along the way.
And don't worry if you don't have the same flip books! You absolutely do not need to make the same sock as us. The books may be difficult to find, so you can join the challenge using a sock pattern of your own choice and share your progress with us.
🏆 The Sock Challenge Leaderboard
This isn't just about finishing socks – it's about taking part, learning, sharing and having fun!
We'll have a Sock Challenge Leaderboard, with points awarded for different achievements throughout the challenge.
We'll regularly share the leaderboard during the livestream and in our Facebook group so you can see how everyone is progressing.
At the end of each season, the overall points leader will receive a free sock pattern! 🎁
And because we want everyone to have a chance to win, the overall challenge prize can only be won once per year.
But that's not all…
A random participant who has shared their sock progress in our Facebook group will also be selected to receive an additional sock-pattern prize! 🎉

This is where participants can share:
🧶 Photos of their sock progress
🧦 Finished socks
🎨 Their yarn and colour choices
📸 Their challenge creations
We'll feature photographs from the group during our livestreams, award points and update the leaderboard.

Each challenge episode will include a combination of:
• Sock Challenge updates
• Our own progress and what we're making
• The good, the bad and the things we're struggling with!

• Your Facebook photos and challenge progress
• Points and leaderboard updates
• A sock-knitting tutorial
As part of the challenge, we'll regularly teach one of three major sock sections:

So whether you're a seasoned sock knitter or someone who has always wanted to try knitting socks, there's something here for you!
