Nelson Mangaldan Buso Jr.s TEDx talk, *Reading Women in Literature: The Semiotic Way*, explores how semioticsthe study of signs and their meaningscan help us understand the silenced or marginalized voices of women in literature.

Drawing from personal experiences and literary texts, he emphasizes the need to uncover the agency of female characters often overshadowed by male-dominated narratives.

Through semiotic analysis, he revisits works like Gabriela Lees *Hunger* and Art Spiegelmans *Maus*, encouraging readers to challenge traditional interpretations and recognize the subtle yet powerful ways women resist patriarchal structures in both literature and life. Nelson Mangaldan Buso Jr. is an instructor at the Department of English and Comparative Literature (DECL) within the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he teaches undergraduate courses in academic writing and literature.

Previously, he served as a Senior High School teacher at De La Salle University (Manila), where he taught practical research courses for the Arts and Design and the Humanities and Social Sciences tracks.

Nelson graduated summa cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies (Language). His undergraduate program provided him with comprehensive training in the theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of the English language. The program also gave him interdisciplinary exposure to various academic fields, including literature, sociology, and anthropology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
