FrunoCraft | Reactor based shulker farm (1D, 3000+ shells per hour, easy survival build) Minecraft Java 18.x @FrunoCraft | Uploaded 2 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
I designed a Shulker farm that produces over 3.100 shells per hour, is one dimensional (built on an end island) and not complicated to build in Java Survival. It is based on the "Reactor"-principle first introduced by EthosLab (youtube.com/watch?v=uf0wvwCbVzE). To my knowledge this is the first Survival-feasible, reactor-based Shulker farm with high rates.

Reactor-based Shulker farms have fascinated me ever since I first heard about them. Their principle makes it obsolete to design any replacement mechanism for the "seed" shulker in conventional designs, and as they are one-dimensional they can be built right in the end, near an end city, hence very little effort for transporting shulkers. However, most reactor designs I've seen so far have either fairly low rates (youtube.com/watch?v=_cXUjs6gfC8) and/or involve the player and often minecarts as agression mechanism, both of which comes with some risks. Perhaps the best compromise between rates and build complexity (Survival friendly) is achieved by designs developed by HF_147 (reddit.com/r/technicalminecraft/comments/pu08zx/1d_shulker_reactor_with_up_to_400_sh) and Rays Works (youtube.com/watch?v=pFdLqTE1MzE), at ~275 shells in the basic design with a decent production. It requires, however, roughly 10.000 blocks/objects to place. (Ray and HF also present designs with rates up to 1.300 shells/h, however, these designs are vastly more complicated.)

In this video I use Rays farm as basis, but improve on it in several ways:
* The walls are all generated out of lava and water (cobblestone). This allows to build very high farms with very little effort.
* I use several "agression chambers", spaced out vertically every 20 blocks. This makes the farm easily scalable, with the only limitation being build height. Each agression chamber will increase the rates by 300-350 shells per hour. If you build it on an end island you can fit 9 agression chambers (between level 60 and 256), or up to 12 agression chambers if you go down to level 0 or build the farm in the overworld (above sea level). Be aware that these farms are also pretty efficient in causing lag, utilizing 25+ shulkers per chamber. (They also double as mob switch.)
* I present a mechanism using the interactions between shulkers and scaffolding that allows you to populate all agression chambers starting with just 2 shulkers, which needs a a few minutes of additional building but saves you the effort to transport one shulker for every agression chamber from an end city.

This video explains the design principles. You can find a companion video (that could be considered part 2) with a build tutorial: youtu.be/hQmxZBzQpOw

It took me about 4 hours to build the "large" version farm (9 agression chambers/3.200 shells) on an end island in 18.2 vanilla survival, with only Inventory Profiles Next assisting (a mod to organize the inventory and refill the hotbar).
The build is not technically complicated, but takes a bit of time due to the size of the farm. The building time can be reduced by choosing a smaller variant (less agression chambers and/or a smaller footprint). This farm does not require any advanced redstone magic, it only uses a handful of droppers, observers and a couple of clocks. All required blocks are easy to get (mostly basic building blocks, scaffolding, signs, ice and lava buckets).

I'm not going into details of shulker farming, or reactor farming specifically, because there are videos out there that explain these mechanics much better than I ever could. I strongly recommend the videos from Ending Credits, who has made a fantastic series explaining pretty much everything you want to know on this subject:
