This session is mainly a detailed examination of the glass tube High Voltage psu, performance. Its specification, as most people read it, is very misleading. Its only function is to drive a glass tube laser, so it seems reasonable that any reponse time specification would imply the time difference between a demand signal and 90% of that demand appearing as watts out from the tube. Not so, as we shall see. It's all down to interpretation, It is also a fact that few people know the dramatic effect that pure white has on the power supply during grayscale or 3D engraving. A detailed understanding of how the HV psu performs reveals it to be the root cause of "fuzzy" grayscale results. I had dreamed that a convaluted application of grayscale could be the route to very high speed dithered photo engraving. I experiment with a method of dithered image engraving at 800mm /s to see if my dream is possible. What I find, are several things different to expectations and rather disappointing.
