I realized that there were some "holes" in lens theory when you start applying principles that work well for cameras to CUTTING with a laser beam. I first detected a problem when the spot size for a 1.5" lens creates an energy density twice that of a 2" lens. Hmmmm, something wrong here when a 2" lens with half the energy density cuts better than a 1.5" lens. That has led me into trying to decode just how the laser beam and lenses interact to perform the cutting process. The conventional facts about focus, depth of field and energy density, are based on limiting assumptions. Our technology is outside that boundary and my personal mission is to see what possibilities exist in that unexplored zone.
