It was just a quiet Thanksgiving morning on the beach in Monterey when we spotted to guys driving some awesome 1/10 Scale RC rock crawlers on the rocks and sand.
Rocket is OBSESSED with RC trucks and loves watching RC videos here on YouTube, so I ran back to the truck to get his new Playschool RC truck and we had a blast hanging out with our new friends.
Rocket started off rough with his little toy truck barely able to navigate the rough terrain. He pushed it and nudged it with his foot and sent it crashing into their expensive custom scale trucks. They were so gracious though and were extremely patient of a random 4 year old and 40 year old asking questions and cheering them on as they made mountains out of the endless supply of mole hills there on the coast at Asilomar State Beach.
I'm really impressed with the RC rock crawling hobby and honestly it checks off a lot of boxes for the All-Terrain Family ethos. It'd done out doors, has no environmental impact, is equally enjoyable for a child and a paren or an expert and a novice, has elements of craft and creativity in the build, modification, and design of vehicles, and has a strong element of skill and development.
Since then I've paid a lot more attention to the videos that come across YouTube and noticed that a lot of guys are taking these scale rock crawlers out on trail hikes for long days outside with many miles of exploration and driving. It's by no means a sit down sport.
