Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on June 16, 2026. Below is a brief synopsis:
Just after 5:00 p.m., four SWAT officers responded to execute an arrest warrant. Officers arrived in an unmarked vehicle and located the suspect inside his parked vehicle. The officers pulled up in front of the suspect's vehicle and saw that he was holding a gun. The suspect then began shooting at the officers. All four officers discharged their firearms numerous times. During the exchange, an officer and the suspect were struck by gunfire. Both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital for treatment. No bystanders were injured. The 35-year-old suspect, Roman Pena, was charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer.
The officers involved have 8 to 9 years of service with the San Antonio Police Department, as listed below. The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate but concurrent inquiries. As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident.
