Here is a video raw clip (not rerendered) taken straight out of the Hero5 Black, while flying on a bumpy, windy day, highlighting two new intriguing features of this camera.
1. Linear FoV (available at 2.7K res and below) removes Fisheye effect by using parts of the sensor that would normally be cropped at less than Wide FoVs and then undistorting the image without noticeable loss of image quality. Can see while diving down the ridge, the horizon remains almost dead straight even at the top of the screen. This mode was created for use on the Karma drone but works on a fixed wing as well.
2. Electronic Image Stabilization, available at 2.7K Res and below.
Similar to Linear FoV, it exposes all of the sensor, and then dynamically crops the images to reduce visible shaking. I think it stabilizes pan and tilt more than roll (can see some roll shake gets through), but still is a big improvement.
These two features are available at 2.7K res and full 60fps.
The net effect of both is a FoV that is slightly less than "Medium" wide FoV. This means if you try to apply additional stabilization in post, that it will crop the image further. If you intend to use stabilization in post, it's probably better to record the original in Wide FoV, but you won't get the benefits of Linear.
Something else notable about this clip is the sound. The Hero5 Black has 3 mics and it tries to pick the one with the best sound. Normally a naked GoPro on my plane will hear only wind. In this clip the sound of the motor is not overwhelmed by the wind.
