Ma mère l'oye is a musical work by French classical composer Maurice Ravel.
The piece was originally written for the piano as a gift to two of Ravel's affectionate children, Mimie and Jean Godebsky, and published in 1910 to be played with four hands. It was inspired by fairy tales by Charles Perrault and the Countess d'Aulnoy. In the same year, his friend Jacques Charlot transcribed it for solo piano and in 1911 the piece was orchestrated by Ravel himself who added new parts and turned it into a ballet.
