One source of rare earth elements (REEs) can come from placer deposits, ie sand mining. Yes, that's right you may have been sitting on some when you last went to the beach!
Some mineral sources where RARE EARTH ELEMENTS CAN BE FOUND ARE:
bastnasite, monazite, loparite, and laterite clays.
The reason why some of the above sands in this video are radioactive is because the elements Thorium and Uranium can be found associated with certain minerals such as monazite and Zircon. Note that: Naturally occurring rare earth elements themselves are NOT radioactive.
