Ever wanted to know the bestest most splendiferous Islay whisky? Good. Me too.
Islay whisky can be divisive by their very nature; many of the distilleries in the region use the abundant peat resource to help fire their malting, resulting in a smoky, peat forward whisky. Not all Islay distilleries use this process however, some notable distilleries such as Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich produce unpeated expressions, though the latter does make some of the world's smokiest whisky too in the form of the Octomore series.
Being a big fan of smoky whisky myself and also starting to enjoy the tiermaker website, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the most popular Islay whiskies and how I feel they rank on a scale of best to worst.
