I'm conducting an experiment to see what the most popular Mario Kart music is for every category you could possibly think of. To do this, I've played over 450 Mario Kart songs in a giant tournament bracket. The best songs are those that win the highest percentage of random matchups from people participating in the quiz!
This includes:
- Every version of every track (eg. N64 Frappe Snowland from Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, and Mario Kart Tour).
- Every variant of each song (eg. Tour Madrid Drive, its Museum version, and its Stadium version).
- Every battle song (eg. 3DS Wuhu Town, 3DS Sherbet Rink).
- Every misc racing song (eg. GBA Single-Pak Multiplayer Race, DS Boss Battle, Totaka's Song).
- Every unused or prototype song (eg. Mario Kart XXL's race theme, DS SEQ_CIRCUIT2, SNES Vanilla Lake's Prototype).
- Every arcade song.
This does not include:
- Songs that do not appear while racing (eg. Title screen, credits, main menu).
- Final lap or Frontrunning variants.
- Fan remixes.
- Unofficial songs (eg. Mushroom Peaks, Midnight Museum).
- Home Circuit versions.*
* Home Circuit reuses Mario Kart 8 music, and I am not aware of any changes. Mario Kart Wii/Tour/7's reuse of tracks usually come hand in hand with some mixing changes.
There are also a few missing songs because I could not find good-quality versions:
- 3DS Music Park [3DS] variants.
- 3DS Music Park [Wii U] variants.*
- GBA Mario Circuit [GBA] unused version.**
- Mario Kart Arcade GP VR's race music.
* I do have them, but I don't want to add them unless I have their 3DS counterparts.
** This is the version that GBA Mario Circuit [Wii U] is based on. There is a fan recreation but it is a demake of the Wii U version, not a remake of the GBA version.
