I've always kinda wanted to play the piano, but never felt like I had the ability or commitment to do it. Well, with this pandemic raging on, and with nothing better to do with some free time I had, I decided to try out one of the online piano learning courses. Maybe you've seen it -- the one that has Harry Connick, Jr. inviting you to try it. It's called Playground Sessions. I figured, what the heck. It's a $15 commitment and I can cancel after the first month if I don't like it. So today I was taking the first lesson. First there was a very simple score to play that required just one finger. Then another that required two fingers. I nailed those. Then three. Took a few tries to get that one. Then four fingers. Took quite a few more tries to finally nail that one down Then five fingers. And, well...
Full disclosure: It took me the better part of about 15 or 20 tries before I played this five-finger drill correctly for the first time. But I was so excited and emboldened after that, I had to go grab my iPhone and film myself playing it again for my friends who all know what a complete musical buffoon I am. I have no musical talent whatsoever. But of course, after I started rolling video, it took another 15 or 20...or 30 tries before I finally got right. Perfect? Well, no. But for this musical klutz, this is a major victory.
