Zeus presents the full game of Ranarama (un-emulated) for the Atari ST spread across Eight videos (This 2 of 8), a brilliant game from the golden era of Atari ST gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1987
What a game!, first played this back in the day when I purchased my ST and was hooked on it from day 1,...once I knew what to do in it.
Story is you've accidently turned yourself into a frog whilst playing around with the Wizards secret potions whilst he was out of his castle and now you must escape 8 dungeons whilst battling all kinds of evil minions that want to see you meet your doom.
Whilst all this is going on you must also do battle with the evil Wizards and more powerful Necromancers that lurke in the shadows and to do this you must jump on them and then rearrange the eight letters so it correctly spells RANARAMA before the timer runs out, if successful they will leave gold tokens (Runes) for you to collect which is needed for you to obtain much more powerful weapons which is essential for the deeper stages within the dungeons, without these stronger powers you will surly meet your fate.
Sadly it turns out there is no ending,...only in storyline as I not only played through all the 8 named dungeons (last one being called "The Last Necromancer") but I continued to dungeon 13 (Dungeon "The Fey" on second loop) and it just carries on so without any uncertainty I can say there is no ending, the only black mark in this game I have, such a shame, all games should have an ending especially when the player is expected to play 8 dungeons at roughly 2hrs each making a total gameplay time of 16 to 18hrs and that doesn't include rest breaks, food breaks or toilet breaks and risking your ST from overheating, I mean the biggest hint the end of the game is coming is the name of the last dungeon,...The Last Necromancer, BLACK MARK Mr. Programmer and Hewson for not creating an ending of some sort, if I had my way the game would end on the first dungeon with the final Necromancer in a different colour to show he's the last one to defeat and then an ending picture making the game 2hrs long,...not 8 dungeons at over 16hrs playing time with no ending at all,...unforgivable.
So enclosing, for the first time EVER, all 8 dungeons of this great game can be seen spread across 8 videos.
I have used the infinite energy and time cheats as to risk playing this for hours and failing near the end was not an option but just to prove I can complete the first dungeon without cheats here is an older (slightly corrupted graphics near the end) recording I did, I could not be bothered to do another 7 dungeons: youtube.com/watch?v=79jZy-xvLuk
