Today's #storytime is a #tribute video to the darling, wonderful Petri the sun conure, which is a beautiful, medium-size parrot. Big thanks and respect to @Philtmnt for his tribute to Nemo and vulnerability on camera in January, which gave me the courage to talk about Petri here.
Petri hatched in the spring of 1999 and passed from complications due to Avian Bornavirus (ABV) Sept. 15, 2018. He was the sunshine in my every day and it destroyed me when the vet said she couldn't help him breathe. What I couldn't possibly relate on camera was I carried him in my hands, against my chest, still wearing my pajamas, into the vet's office, tears streaming down my face, on the morning of his seizure...and it felt like an eternity waiting on paperwork and payment and sh!t while they triaged him in the back. But I was there for my little friend as they eased him from this world and it was the worst day of my life.
The video above focuses on a few of the cool, fun stories when he was still physically here...because Petri is an awesome companion. We went through hell together. We survived job changes, a move half-way across a continent, a divorce, the loss of a home/security, an abusive relationship, my deal with cancer (twice), and finally getting situated in a safe & solid house/security in a reasonable neighborhood. He was my emotional support dude and a fabulous one at that! When I mention the "hiatus" from BookTube on this channel, his passing and my spiral downward afterward is what I'm talking about. It took some time to come out of that.
