The Ramat model is a community-centered initiative designed to scale up proven land restoration practices through enhanced local engagement, awareness and sustainable management. At its core, the model promotes low-cost, high-impact techniques dryland techniques to restore forests and rangelands, complemented by pastoralist community traditional bylaws and knowledge on grazing patterns and norms.

$Session 1: Restoring Asia’s landscapes: Who heals when the land heals? Landscapes are inseparable from the lives, cultures and relationships they sustain. Yet extractive practices and environmental degradation continue to fracture ecosystems and communities. In response, Indigenous peoples, youth and local communities are leading restoration grounded in care, justice and collective wellbeing. From reviving degraded lands to renewing cultural knowledge and local economies, these efforts show that healing the land also heals people. By sharing real, rooted examples from across the region, this session explores restoration as a living process. One that reconnects ecology with dignity, resilience and the possibility of thriving landscapes for present and future generations.$
