Ram Pickups Rescue Stellantis as European Business Slips Into the Red
Ram pickups and Jeep SUVs are restoring Stellantis profits while Europe slips into the red.
The group reported €43.5 billion revenue and €293 million net profit, reversing last year’s €1.87 billion loss. North American revenue jumped 32%, driven by profitable combustion-powered Ram and Jeep models.
Europe delivered a negative 0.6% adjusted operating margin as Stellantis cut prices amid fierce competition. It now plans to make future European platforms achieve a “Chinese level of competitiveness” and use partner Leapmotor to challenge BYD and Chery.
That says plenty about who sets the cost and technology benchmark. In effect, American trucks are financing the battle for Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat and Vauxhall.
The recovery remains fragile. Earnings missed expectations, the overall operating margin was only 1.8%, and positive industrial cash flow is not expected until 2027.
For motorists, competition may bring better deals, alongside pressure on European models and factories.
