Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. I was inspired by this song which randomly stuck to my head. Just the verse, because I don't remember the lyrics to the rest of it, and I wanted to paint a rainy bar aesthetic with two lonely strangers. Proportionately smaller in size as a reflection of how one can feel so small in a huge city...
That was a whole load of bs btw.
Ok, So here's what actually happened. This is probably the best rainy window I've painted. But because of my artistic snobbery, I felt that I wanted a back story to every artworks, and for this one I thought of adding two strangers there. The only problem was, this artistic snobbery of mine has no awareness of my lack of talent in human proportions. Hence, they look a little overwhelmed by the lanterns and everything around it.
I stand firm that the guy should always be taller, but he looks abit thin, small and timid here. Let's just pretend he's walking from the distance.
I feel like I've ruined it :*(. But I really love the foggy window and the blurred out lanterns in the background.
I was probably subconsciously inspired by my feed with all the Lunar New Year festivities and was filled posts of red lanterns. I wanted something that gives a Shanghai Bund kind of vibe. Btw it's a TV series which 90% Asian serial drama watching grandmothers have probably watched at least once in their lifetime. I know both of mine did, and the iconic theme song used to blare out from our old TV every afternoon.
This video is abit longer than my usual as it took a lot of time and blending. I used to think that I need alot of brushes and I would buy those multi brush sets, but recently I've come to learn that the finer the brushes, the more refined the outcome.
I did use a couple of woolbrushes to create the foggy window effect and the rest are all done with size 0 to 000 brushes.
Anyway, I hope you'll like this painting. This is listed on etsy and i think it looks pretty nice framed up as a diptych separating both the strangers. Hence without further ado, let's begin
