Rainier Bar and Grill is being recognized with a John D. Spellman Award for its decades-long role as a welcoming community gathering place for residents and visitors in downtown Enumclaw.
Built in 1904, the site was home to the Rainier Wine House. The original wooden structure burned down but was rebuilt in 1917 as The Rainier—reportedly Enumclaw’s first brick and concrete building, setting a new standard for fire-resistant construction in town. The Rainier Bar and Grill has continuously operated as a wine house, tavern, bar, and now bar and grill for more than a century, making it Enumclaw’s longest-running establishment of its kind.
