Raina Kabaivanska's 13th Master Class in Sofia
Pressconference
16.09.2013
The essence of what Sra. Kabaivanska says:
"Singing is not a fantasy but learning. I can see the results of our efforts out there and those are not to be meteoric careers but long-lasting, enduring ones. Singing is a complex process - particularly to succeed staying on stage. To do so today is even harder due to globalization, open boundaries and market. In my youth there was only radio and we listened to opera and symphonic music; then, with the television things had changed and now with computers the world is completely different.
Therefore, I'm telling you very earnestly - we must fight for the opera, we must fight for the young artists for they'd be able to sing and be on stage. And these young people are already hundred thousand.
I give scholarships to children that to my opinion would have chance to make a career. The market is so expanded so we have to sustain those singers that have certain intensity, talent - here it is the key word in my vocabulary. What does it mean to have talent: instinct, voice, technique, taste, artistry, and, alas, nowadays to directors that are in command - looks."
