Prime Minister Mark Carney expedited the passage of Bill C-5. Announced on June 6, this bill passed through the House and Senate in just twenty days.

Bill C-5 is framed as a national initiative aimed at “removing federal barriers to interprovincial trade and improving labour mobility.” Radha Curpen from McMillan LLP highlights its significance, “Bill C-5 sends a signal that Canada is open for business. It is a bill designed to improve efficiencies in approval processes. The biggest question is, will it also respect indigenous rights?”
