I created this arrangement of Rachmaninoff's Vocalise for the new Yves Fossaert Organ in Vouvant, France. Often, it is hard to imagine which pieces will show an organ at its best, or use any particular features of the instrument. Specifications can, on paper, often be misleading, and it is only when you actually play an instrument in real life that you can determine what it sounds like. When I arrived in Vouvant, I tried various pieces and sounds, before deciding that Rachmaninoff's Vocalise would be the perfect piece to show not only the expressive qualities of this new instrument, but to make use of the pedal divide - a feature often left unused on most organs. I wrote the transcription onto manuscript paper the next morning and recorded it that afternoon. I hope you enjoy it! Jonathan
