Morton was the winner of the Victorian Premier's Literary Award Prize for an Unpublished Manuscript in 2024 for what would later become this breakout novel.
Morton's protagonist, a woman disillusioned with life in the big city, returns to the lake town in Guatemala where she had been happy a decade earlier. There, she strikes up friendships with two very different women โ and through them is forced to confront what it means to belong to a place. This is a tale that quietly agitates for connection, belonging and a life well lived, finding power in its simplicity and beauty through interiority.
With host Allee Richards, Morton takes the stage at The Wheeler Centre to discuss her award-winning and critically acclaimed contribution to Australian literature.
