This footage of cruel and abusive “training” of very young horses was originally shared on Reddit. The poster had allegedly reported the abuse to Racing WA but to no avail. Therefore, CPR has reported it again and we are currently awaiting a response.
By no means is this way of handling horses – of any age – appropriate. It will inevitably scar the horse for life, creating a reactive, fearful, and in the end, mentally shut-down horse.
This kind of handling is the direct cause of racehorses turning “dangerous” and labelled unsuitable for rehoming when they’re finally retired from racing. As we know all too well, that is an outright death sentence, because racing do not take responsibility for rehabilitating their traumatised horses.
