Day 2 of Rocky Mountain Race Week 2026 takes us to Kearney, Nebraska —
and Paige has a unique problem: the 454 Big Block Chevelle is TOO FAST
to compete in the class she signed up for.

After Day 1 in Great Bend, Kansas — where Paige ran a 13.06 at 106 mph
and landed 5th out of 24 cars in the 13.0 class — Day 2 in Kearney,
Nebraska was supposed to be about tightening that bracket.
Instead, Pass 1: 12.71 at 108 mph. Too fast.
The problem with having a 454 Big Block Chevelle on a full nitrous plate
kit is that apparently it just wants to run 12s — and that's no good when
you're indexed in the 13.0 class. So the rest of Day 2 became an
engineering challenge in reverse: how do you SLOW DOWN a race car?
We tried a longer nitrous ramp delay on the progressive controller.
Still a 12.75. We dropped the nitrous jetting from a 125 shot to a 100
shot and added weight to the trunk. She ran a 12.89 — side by side with
the Rusty Nuts Media Jeep who also broke into the 12s at 12.97.
Two idiots breaking out of their bracket class at the same time.

By the final pass of the night, we brake-tapped it and ran a 13.47 —
which is officially a 13-second slip to turn in, but probably too slow to
stay competitive. Four passes in Kearney and we've got 12.71, 12.75,
12.89, and 13.47 in the books.
Also: no radio in the 1964 Chevelle means cassette tapes from the
mother-in-law and a boombox for the drive. That's race week life.
Two more days of racing in Pueblo, Colorado ahead. The Chevelle is fast.
Now we just have to figure out how to manage it.
