THE MASTER OF JEWISH MUSIC IN HIS PRIME

“You Are Our Choice”

RABBI SHLOMO CARLEBACH

THE SHIR L’SHLOMO CONCERT SERIES #3

LIVE IN CONCERT

Accompanied by a Full Orchestra

JEWISH MUSIC IN ITS REAL BEAUTY

Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach was the real master of Jewish music in our time. His musical compositions are from the depths of the soul, from the rhythm of his heart. They are intertwined with holiness, connecting the human spirit with the Creator above.

As Shlomo himself so eloquently expressed:

“I never listened to non-Jewish music. My best melodies were composed on the holy day of Shabbos... Rock & Roll, it makes me feel very sad... There are many Jewish composers today, but unfortunately they are mixing milchig with fleishig... You don’t have to listen to Michael Jackson for rhythm. Rhythm is in the heart, in my blood... You know what Chassidic melodies are? Songs you can dance with, but also cry with... When former pious Chassidim used to sing, tears were flowing... not tears of sadness, but so deep... so very deep...”

Recorded live on video February 14, 1993, by Images Unlimited.

How disgraceful it is that many of today’s leading singers desecrate the holy words of the Torah, Prayer, Psalms, etc., with tunes of Rock & Roll, which in their entire essence are of non-Jewish origin, astrayed from any holiness.

It is even more shameful when others sing Shlomo’s own beautiful compositions and jazz them to the tune of Rock & Roll.

Yes indeed, Shlomo was the real master of Jewish music. Therefore, his songs will remain with us forever and ever, until one day the echo of his songs will travel all over the world from within the rebuilt walls of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

May that day be soon!
