Gutsick GibbonAfter months of experiments I'm ready to bust Jeffery Tomkins and his bogus Creationism. You may have heard humans are "ONLY" 70-89% similar to chimpanzees, and you may have heard that from a creationist in your life or online. They might have told you Jeffery Tomkins, a creationist geneticist, has turned the human/chimp relationship on it's head. These creationists are wrong, and I'm here to explain why using Tomkins' own methods.

We're raising more money for field work with an all-day Creationism Debunk-athon! This time, for my own trip back to Kenya and for that of a friend Dok Deino.
Dok will be headed out West here in the United States and has provided a wonderful summary:
"The main purpose of the expedition is to track down the provenance of some fossils in my Alma Mater's collection. We have some dinosaur bones in the basement that have next to no documentation. But after months of detective work, I've managed to narrow down their provenance to about a 1 square mile area. A lotta land, but 2 weeks should be enough time to find and document the site. If it can be found
To add to that, I want to see if there are any more fossils at the site. One of the specimens in our collection comes from a juvenile sauropod, which are not very common. So if there is more of the skeleton out there, it could be important to future research. If it's on public land, I can't dig it up. But I can contact the US Bureau of Land Management, and they have a plethora of institutions who can excavate and preserve the skeleton. If it's on private land, things get a bit more complicated. But that's a bridge to cross when I get to it. And at least the site can be identified and documented.
Once the expedition is over, whatever donations remain will be given to a fund for a local museum (link here: bighornbasindinos.org ). I'd like to be able to donate as much as possible, which is why I'm trying my best to fundraise before I head out there. I want to be certain I have enough money for emergencies, and then that emergency fund is going to be donated afterwards."
Dok has personally raised $1600, but is hoping to make it to $3000. This means he is trying to raise an additional $1400 dollars that will go toward vehicle maintenance (offroading in the West is tough on a car), food, supplies, and an emergency fund.
I (Erika/GG) am attempting to raise $1600 for myself to cover the field work costs (food, land fee, local fees, gas contributions etc) and a new $400 fee for a NACOSTI permit required to carry out my work in the NMK and West Kenya. Thank you so much for getting me to 100 thousand subscribers! I hope you enjoy my semi-surreal depiction of biodiversity through time. This animation took a very, very long time to complete, but I think it accurately captures the wonder I feel for evolution! I think it is an appropriate way to celebrate 100k. Here's to 100k more!
*I'm not a professional artist so I'm sorry for the rough parts
**Organisms depicted are not labeled to prevent misunderstanding. Evolution is not a "March of Progress" and this animation follows several lineages for this reason. It culminates in humans because we are humans and that is fun.

A few months ago I released a video debunking Jeffery Tomkins. I received criticism and pushback for some of the claims in that video, and a handful of these criticisms were warranted. As such, I have performed a series of additional experiments to clear up exactly WHY Jeffery Tomkins is incorrect.
I've unlisted the original video for SEO purposes (I don't want folks getting the wrong idea as to why Jeff's wrong) but I want it available so no one thinks I'm SHIRKING my mistakes. You can find it, and a video addressing criticisms, below.
A few times in this video in demonstrating Tomkins 2011-2014 weighting scheme I use the following formula: (average length/average qlen) * 100 = percentage.
This should be (average nident/average qlen) * 100 = percentage. (this actually makes the numbers ~1% worse).
This does not impact the listed results for organisms pairs as I reran the weighting for each, as can be double checked using the write-up linked below, but simply applied to on-screen demonstrations of the calculation.
All analyses for Tomkins methodology were redone for this video. Methods and tools found here: github link: github.com/mister-gibbon/ggblast
~02:14:16 I take an average of the length column, this should be an average of the nident column.
This turns the already garbage number of ~92 into a slightly worse ~91%.
The numbers in the reanalysis were not impacted as I rerecorded those portions of the video with the correct weighting scheme. However, be aware that to replicate Tomkins' methods you must take:
(average nident/ average qlen) * 100 = your percentage

**In the original cut of this video, around 3:05, I said that the Middle Pleistocene no longer has Australopiths or Homo naledi. I have no idea what was going on in my brain, naledi persists unto ~250k as I have mentioned in many videos prior. Goofy mistake on my part, but it has been rectified to reflect correct dates.
