After seeing this video, a few of you have asked about getting quills. Porcupines naturally lose their quills similar to how us humans lose our hair. I recently started a shop on Etsy if anyone wants a quill...or a painting done by the animals: etsy.com/shop/AdventurousHeartRMN

Sometimes the best lessons in life come from those around us…that includes from our pets. During a morning walk with my pet porcupines, Kibo taught me a valuable lesson: to better listen to the porcupines and let go of human expectations. Since I’m sure many of you don’t quite speak porcupine yet, let me break it down for you in human terms. Mawenzi is a hugger. I can reach down and pick her up with no problem and cuddle with her. Kibo represents the non-huggers in our lives. I learned that while not a hugger, Kibo is a huge fan of target training. While getting quilled was no fun, I am thankful for the lessons Kibo taught me.

As you watch this video, please remember that getting quilled by my pet porcupines is a very rare experience. I work with them at least twice a day and have them run throughout the house at times without any incident. By nature porcupines while spooked easily, are very gentle creatures as shown in some of my other videos: (youtube.com/playlist?list=PLroP4MY3LmWB5WT8EtFiZcgW4l_84nksH). By knowing and reading their reactions, getting quilled is unlikely. This video presented a very rare circumstance, and I wanted to share it to really show Kibo’s growth after the incident.
