The best photo of a person is from just above the head to mid torso and includes the shoulders. A lot of people taking selfies forget these important features when they ask for their portrait to be painted. It's best to ask them to pose for you so you can get that perfect light and pose. :)
**This photo is from the Sktchy app and the image holder/model agreed to share it. I did cut a fair portion of this video out because I'm not sure sharing many more photos is allowed. Better to be safe and just keep it to one.**
