Some of the first 'professional' soldiers, sergeants were ordinarily non-nobles who performed a lot of the skilled work necessary to support an army. Mounted sergeants often served in a light cavalry role, skirmishing and reporting on enemy movements, while foot sergeants tended to be better armed, equipped, and trained than the peasants drafted into their lord's service as levies.

THE BASE: Layer of PVA followed by sand, painted first with thinned down Oak Brown, then heavily drybrushed with Ruddy Umber with a little touch of Urban Buff on the larger clumps of texture. Dots of PVA and static grass to add texture, and a couple of Mountain Tufts from Army Painter to vary the height.
