I was at a mall and they had the biggest claw machine I've seen... as well as a nearly 3 foot long Shaymin! I filmed the first and only try I had enough cash for and was surprised to see it work! There is no way to describe how big this is with words. It looks fairly small in perspective to the rest of the big toys, but trust me- I could hardly cram it into the shotgun seat of our Sienna minivan. I consider myself a claw machine professional (I hardly have room for all my wins) but this is my first time winning one of these giant models. It was great getting reactions from the mallgoers... "You think that toy is big enough?" "Whoah." "What's daaaat?" xDDD That was my dad and little brother you hear in the video though, this wing was deserted at the time I won it. The machine plays the song Popcorn, my favorite jingle. What an awesome day.
This thing is the most rigged type of claw there is, which is why it shakes so much. The reason the Shaymin was "gettable" is due to its shape and size- it's gigantic, meaning it cannot slip free of the claw, and its smooth and bulbous top forces the claw to slide over it entirely instead of stopping on top. The bottom is almost entirely flat, so the "plate" portion of the claw gets stuck. I knew this particular model closes entirely but tries to shake it loose, so I thought I had a decent shot if it wasn't too heavy. Apparently, it wasn't. Always remember- a three pronged claw must have a prong behind each leg and one supporting the hindquarters/back of your item. The Shaymin worked especially well since it is backheavy, as it automatically reclined in the claw's grip. On machines where the plush is not angled to do so, let it rotate a bit and hit the button slightly before it seems it is lined up, as I did here. The claws rotate to throw you off but it's truly one of your greatest tactics to make use of. If the claw does not rotate, move the joystick left/right, up/down or in circles to force it to do so. Be sure you grab a prize that is either big enough to fit safely within the claw's grasp or a long prize that will have all its weight in the middle-- there is an insane amount of space between prongs and if the toy can fit through, the claw will SHAKE IT through.
All in all, a $2 well spent.
