This video was filmed before the police murder of George Floyd and the ensuing protests.
Since ways to support the protesters are evolving rapidly, I encourage you to do some research about where your time, money, and resources are best able to serve this movement. As of writing this, Minnesota Freedom Fund is at capacity with their donations. Like many others in the book community, Ive been keeping up with the actions on Jesses (Bowties & Books) Instagram they are on the front lines of this protest, and they have Venmo and PayPal set up to receive donations.
Additionally, Shae from Books With Shae has created the Blackout Buddy Read for folks who want to put in work to become better allies, or folks wondering how we got here in the first place. I highly encourage you to join me in participating in this readalong, and if this is new to you, ESPECIALLY if youre white, dont let this be the only time you critically interrogate your privilege and how you can work to dismantle racist systems of oppression.
