The sphere is made with 80 hexagon units and 12 pentagonal units.
Each hexagon subunit is hollow with 3 layers, 18+18+12=48 magnet balls. Each pentagonal unit is 5 + 5 + 10 = 20 balls, total 4080 magnets.
The quasi-geodesic dome is made with 85 hexagon units and 6 pentagonal units, total 4200 magnets. At that scale the pentagon elements distort the curvature into more of a pentagonal tent than a true dome, but the shape still looks interesting I think.
