But one question that crops up a lot is, how can we CREATE an entangled state? For example, if we have two electrons, how do we entangle them? Well, I discuss that quickly in this video. One theoretical way to do this is to have a particle with zero spin split into two particles that have spin (such as electrons).
Because spin is a type of angular momentum, the Law of Conservation of Angular Momentum must hold. In other words, the total spin of the two new particles must be the same as the spin of the original particle (zero). So if we find one of the new particles to be spin up (along any measurement direction), then the other particle MUST be spin down (along the same direction). This way, the spins of the two particles are opposite to each other and the sum of their spins is zero. Angular momentum is conserved.
Quantum entanglement is a very interesting phenomenon in the field of quantum mechanics, and I'd recommend reading more about actual practical methods of creating quantum entanglement such as Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion (SPDC).
