http://qt.tudelft.nl/ A group of researchers led by Leo Kouwenhoven at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) study the properties and behaviour of matter at the nanoscale and make use of them to develop a quantum computer. By using the laws of quantum mechanics, quantum computers have the potential to become millions of times more powerful than today's computers. Kouwenhoven and his team follow different approaches, including quantum computers based on diamond and quantum computers based on carbon nanotubes. Their successes include being the first group that succeeded in detecting a Majorana particle.
The researchers are funded by the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) that promotes, co-ordinates and finances physics research in the Netherlands.
