Gameplay video of the Quake 2 mod CrateDM, a mod where you play as a crate.
CrateDM is a very simple mod that adds new crate/box multiplayer models and a deathmatch map. However, the idea behind it is similar to the Prop Hunt modes you might see in TF2, GMOD or COD. It's really easy to confuse human players, given that crates tend to blend into many Quake 2 maps. A major difference from those more modern prop hunt modes is that, given how the mod merely adds new models, there are no weapon restrictions.

The bots in this video, Ace Bot II, aren't affected by whether or not a player is a crate.
