the opening is a parody of the opening in the 8th chapter ("Matsuribayashi") of Higurashi When They Cry/Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, a visual novel series written by Ryukishi07. the song used is "Angelic Bright", by Ayane. neither the original opening nor the song belong to me. all rights go to their respective owners!
been a hot minute, huh? this is probably way too much effort for what is a very non serious edit, but regardless i had a lot of fun. why an edit for this map, and a higurashi opening at that? on christmas eve of 2023, a group of people in a private chat collectively shadowdropped the regular golden on this map. one of those victors, Poist, made a silly, yet entertaining edit for his video. you can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=AB8WApeh1r0
not too long ago, creepycat (the only other fc golden victor of this currently) suggested i do an edit of my own if i happen to do fc. parallel to all this, i've been reading through higurashi, thoroughly enjoying my time, and thought it would be very amusing to have a parody of its most dramatic opening attached to a golden as infamously tedious and slow as this one. i hope you get some entertainment out of it
it only seems appropriate to shoutout higurashi when they cry here, i highly recommend giving it a go: store.steampowered.com/app/310360/Higurashi_When_They_Cry_Hou__Ch1_Onikakushi
additional thanks go to @Cr33pyCat and @ajojoweeb9638 for sending me pictures of their cat/pfp so i could use those in the opening, lol
map info below
time: 22 hours, not sure how much of it was afk, occupied by watching creeps' vid for learning, and stratfinding that amounted to nothing
luck: this could have gone a lot worse, but god have mercy for i was not spared a death at the final fucking ultra of the map (as seen in the opening :D) i died to the very last input about an hour before i got this (which was a fluke spanning over 10 minutes beyond my previous pb) so that shit genuinely had me livid. it's an expectable death because the way that ultra is set up is rabies potent and just out to get you, but it was disappointing regardless. luckily i got another far run shortly after that managed to finish it off. so despite that horrid death, i didnt get unlucky elsewhere
enjoyment: i didnt hate it. obviously some of the chokepoints dont even feel fair and are simply complete bs, but the "average" gameplay of the map was actually quite fun and satisfying to pull off after the learning phase
difficulty: currently in tier 13; all in all, given my genetic roll i think my clear time suggests that this fits in either tier 11 or 12. im leaning towards 12. please tell creepycat that the goldens he does are really fucking hard. mf needs to stop underestimating the difficulty of what he does holy lawd
raw sesh, might take a while to go live: youtu.be/4Nb2hFpdj8A
cinny whenever you read this, you can knock this golden out my goat
the first ever run to break the 36x barrier. and through a miracle that i will not be able to comprehend for the rest of my lifetime, the first ever run to break the 37x barrier at the very same time.
at the time of uploading this is wr by an unholy margin, and chances are it isn't getting dethroned for a long time.
i dont know how long this took. taking all my sprawl solo experience into account over the many years, this is easily at least 2x the time commitment that i've ever put into anything, even for celeste, and that includes WMFCG. 500+ hours would not surprise me. seeing how my goal was simply 36x, i got about as unlucky as you could have gotten. i had more than fifteen fucking 35x runs before this happened. i had so many of them that i lost the exact count. this took so much longer than it ever had any right to, and that's okay. i was able to play this in isolation, and no session ever felt like a drag or was mentally demanding. the rng factor, as much as it's a hindrance in going for high score runs, is the very same thing that never lets it become boring.
i had several runs ending in the 350's that were mere seconds away from being a 36x+, and pretty much all of them were flawed in the early game one way or another. this shit was ripped from my grasp by the tiniest amount so many damn times, halfway through this grind i was convinced that allah himself was divinely intertwining my ass every time a chance came up.
and then on sessions where rng was bad, it felt like i was attempting something completely fucking impossible and unrealistic.
this run was the first time i had ever entered the last minute with 300 points acquired, and that's when i realised that there'd be no remaining dignity for me if i were to fuck this one up as well. after hundreds of hours i was finally given godlike rng, and the pressure to not squander it probably left me with 170bpm throughout the entire last minute. so if you're wondering why the camera is jittery at the end, it's because my hand was severely shaking, and if you're wondering why i made that movement mistake at 4:13, it's because my vision was going blurry from nerves.
this isn't the hardest thing i've done in a game, because celeste, and more specifically WMFCG, is a crazier skill check in every aspect. but what i CAN say, is that this is the most unrealistic achievement i've pulled off in any game. demanding 5 minutes of really clean and solid fast play while having to win the lottery at the same time is just stupid.
music in background is from the Lost in Vivo OST. weird ass choice i know, but it's mostly relaxed even if eerie, i promise. also that game is good you should check it out
first ever sub 30 on this map, i think it's neat. i was debating on whether or not i should make this unlisted but decided against it. since i wanted to focus on a greater variety of maps for the wrr, i never got around to attempting this sub proper as it's fairly grindy and difficult. while rewatching it, i regained interest in this map. now that the wrr is out, i might as well make this public because otherwise it's never gonna see the light of day, even if it renders a run of mine in the big compilation as obsolete already lmoe
wack resolution never dies
edit: pony found a new route for this map and it's cool, watch here imo youtube.com/watch?v=8Jjx95xdrUs
one instance of mild pause abuse in r5 because the downdash scammed me and i thought i was just dead. the moment i realised i wasnt i instantly unpaused. according to ref this isnt major enough to warrant a note. slightly bleh because the vast majority of my r5 passes (on failed golden attempts) were pauseless but oh well it's aite
double golden isnt required for fcg. it adds no difficulty and just wastes time at the start of every attempt. i cba
this golden is fun. yea i said it
ok well it's fun except for room 10 that shit actually violates human rights. as a short explanation, i use dash direction keys only to do this room (switching from wasd over to tfgh) and then buffer 39 dashes/demos for completely normalised movement. only thing i changed from creeps is the ending where you do that stalling thing to bonk the seeker over and over until it hits the coin. it looks ass but fsr the buffered jump + updemo that creeps does at the end of that screen would fail the most out of any input for me so this was a good workaround. that being said, i still had 6 (if i didnt miscount) golden deaths here and had absolutely no fucking clue what went wrong each time. the feedback loop on this is so ambiguous and non existent it makes the average person post ketamine overdose look responsive
time: 25 hours
difficulty: this is so far removed from your typical celeste skill check it legit could be anywhere between tier 8 to tier 12. may the jolly within your heart lead the way because im not answering this for you
i asked creepycat and he said it would be okay for me to use the clrsav command in the console to wipe my save progress after a death. i did this to skip the prologue at the start of every attempt because it's literally just a 2 minute time waster every run, so it was agreed upon that we could cut it out.
the thumbnail sums up my enjoyment verdict, but yea don't bother with this. it's over 90 minutes of memory based puzzle maps, random quirks/unpolished design choices that can easily end your run 50 minutes in, and beginner gameplay that gets mindnumbing after a while. i love endurance, but this pushes the boundaries of what i'm able to enjoy (i, in fact, didn't enjoy this nearing the end of this grind). also yes that death in the thumbnail actually happened and it was 47 minutes in and god is dead
time: fgr again, no idea, but it's way too many fucking hours regardless. this legit took more dedicated practice than the godforsaken solaris system run because it's just so long and learny. i didnt make much of an attempt to play this efficiently, plus i had a death to the last lobby level (treehive in that run) earlyish into the grind and also died to bhs flag 11 like a day before i got this. so it could have gone significantly better
difficulty: i dont know. this isn't mechnically hard but it wastes an absurd amount of time for obvious reasons. depends on how you do your difficulty rankings, but it can stay in tier 10 i suppose
second victor behind cvzen
challenge involves doing solaris, lunaris and stellaris deathless back to back. this is !!NOT!! hundo which means no fc or golden related rooms for any of them before you picture something way harder than what this actually is
time: like 10 hours of dedicated practice/attempts for this fullgame run, but i have no clue how many old hours i spent on these maps. you also have to consider that those old hours include practice spent on the FC runs, which, again, this run does NOT include
regardless, my point is that tracking hour counts for full game runs with prior playtime doing god knows what leaves you with the most unreliable and indecipherable hour counts that no bermuda paradox formula could ever compensate for.
difficulty opinion: call me the endurance slut but i wish to send this shit straight to narnia on the list for it's either tier 13 or at max 14
campaign: good :3

this run is harder than wmfcg, making this the hardest thing i've done in celeste. i like to see getting to flag 2 with the golden as its own standalone achievement, because that's kind of what it is lol (similar to ae-end on wmfcg)
232 hours to get this because i know people are going to ask anyway
DISCLAIMER: The paragraph below has spoilers for the Portal 2 map "Layers of Cognition", by Narkodes. If you happen to be in the seasoned Portal 2 puzzle community and were planning on playing this map, you shouldn't read it. The video is just disguised as a regular Celeste video for the sake of a joke.
ok, so, i know i already sung your praises in the video itself, but yea once more huge congrats on making LoC, Narkodes. i can't believe you managed to make a map this good where, when you initially hear of its premise and then look up the fizzler shaft for the first time, you're convinced you've stepped foot into front page hell. but then when you start solving it, you realise how truly refined and justified the entire layout is. and of course, the logic sequences are asinine.
sorry about the lost footage of me exploring the layout for the first time, but like i stated in the video it shouldn't be TOO important. also i apologise about random mic problems, this decrepit mic stand thingy i use did not want to stay in place while i was playing this
the blind run was cut into five parts.
part 1 (9:50 - 40:57) wrapping my head around the layout a lil bit - i manage to get the cc to the top layer
part 2 (40:57 - 48:50) figuring out how to get the third cube, finally
part 3 (48:50 - 1:12:06) utter confusion at the realisation that i now have three cubes and no idea what to do with them
part 4 (1:12:06 - 1:24:56) i manage to get all three cubes onto the top layer, hooray! unfortunately, i am met with a predicament, because what follows is probably the singular most complex logical point i have ever come across in a portal 2 map.
part 5 (1:24:56 - 2:12:58) the home stretch; a somewhat miserable attempt at a clean runthrough of the map after i've managed to piece everything together, except i forget where i am in the solution path like seven times in the process. as you may have surmised from the part 4 description, there is a HUGE time gap between this part and the previous one, because i had spent multiple hours off camera going insane over the ending bit. there was just no way i was going to have these realisations on camera while giving commentary, so i hope this cut is not too jarring.
that's about it. thanks for making it!
my performance on this is noteworthy though, because this is my first time doing a high tier 2 (or any tier 2 for that matter) with a single digit hour count. my time for this specifically was 8 and a half hours. statistical outlier for my standards. i fluked half the map (first run to flags got it) so theres that

this is obviously not connected to the arg in any way, it's just intended to be a parody. i find this webseries to be really interesting which is why i wanted to reference it somehow - manually recreating its style ended up being more work than originally thought though, lol
also the map is goobertron tier

this compilation features 7 runs, one of which (triple gravity) ranks at #2, while all the others are current world records at the time of uploading.
some notes about the runs:
triple gravity 10.93 - the only non wr in this video, and a solid run nontheless. when i landed it, it was tied with death pony's 10.93 from way back, but very recently he's come back to land a 10.89 of his own. currently, m2k, death pony and i are attempting to take down the long standing records this game has to offer in hopes of making a rampage sequel in the future - keep an eye out :)
marble melee primer 14.32 - this barely beats woody's 14.35, though it could have been lower if the finish timer didn't scam me with its processing delay. mbu's timer is pretty wack unfortunately
urban jungle 5.66 - super solid run, this is the best catch i've gotten without immediately dying afterwards and i'm glad i didn't end up choking it, as not having a catch die on you on this map is really difficult.
fork in the road 6.97 - potentially the most significant run in this collection, as this is the first ever sub 7 achieved on this map. horribly tight to do.
tree house 30.32 - the biggest wr time gap here (old wr was 30.62 for reference), despite this being one of the easiest runs to me. seems like this map got somewhat neglected sadly, which is odd because i think it's really neat
ramps reloaded 13.52 - really rough route, although mbg's newer route for this map might be worth to test out in the future - i mainly wanted to use the og route to see if i could beat woody's movement and was only barely able to, incredibly tight.
will o wisp 10.65 - solid catch, not much else to say

journal says 176 hours but i don't know how accurate that is because i artificially increase it via afk lol
and yes this is harder than wmfcg so far. by how much? no clue. it's a gap. go figure.
i could either get this very soon or i am going to double my current hour count and i fear there may be no inbetween. flag 2 and ogmo will decide my fate and consistency on this map means very very little. this 5th 3k entry took longer than my other four entries combined. i wish i made that up, but i didn't. that should not be realistic in any sense whatsoever.
anyway i think i will go play portal revolution now for the mood has struck me right
q: why does the moon berry not collect after the nodraft/cassette transitions?
a: moon berries take a few extra frames to collect compared to regular red berries, which lets me buffer jump out of the transitions to make the double collect possible.
q: how long did this take you and how hard is it?
a: i did not track my hour count, but as far as difficulty goes this is definitely harder than n7d1dg at the very least
q: what is the theme of this run?
a: the point of it was to imitate yoshi who is a celeste deathless player known for his ruthless and fast playstyle during goldens. i exaggerated this in the run though, so you'll see some utterly atrocious speedstrats i did to push the joke. don't think that i think yoshi would actually do all of these things to himself for a normal golden run because otherwise he'd be in an insane asylum as we speak
q: what does the title mean with "standard path"?
a: yoshi often goes for astronomically goofy goldens that any sane individual would have to pull out of the deepest pit of their ass to conceive as challenge ideas, and despite 7dg being one of the most popular and polished goldens back then, he found it boring and instead did uhhhh a9 golden??? fucking spfcg?? floating oil rig fcg yea okay bro was doing some zesty crusty shit got dam
q: should i sub to yoshi?
a: yea you should: youtube.com/channel/UCu1WEIXV1zsD0j474E9-Gxw
q: why did you do this?

Sometime in late 2021 after I originally achieved 7dg, I was fairly convinced at the time that I would not feel that way about an achievement ever again. During this time period, some pretty major advancements would occur in the golden scene, with Clantis entering his own multi tier 1 skill phase in December of that year. Needless to say, his runs as well as Cr33pyCat's goldens were a constant inspiration for me from 7dg onwards. In the background, Tardigrade was working on a large summit styled map - estimated to be tier 0 in terms of golden difficulty. Throughout the following year, Clantis would chip away at this challenge - and after a year of playing, he was able to get it in January of 2023. A few months prior to this, I had been building up my own skill a significant amount, even taking the difficulty leap past the barrier of 7dg, and in October of 2022, I decided to give this map a shot for fun. Little did I know what would follow; since I enjoyed the map a lot, I wanted to see how far I could go in terms of goldening it. Shortly after Clantis' original golden, I lost motivation after a flag 16 pb. I had definitely made way more progress than I could have ever anticipated, but the golden seemed completely impossible regardless. And then, it just kind of sat there. Months followed and I would leave it mostly untouched - I would always try to come back to it on my own but to no avail; my motivation would just die out very quickly with every attempt.
Fast forward to September, ninz would come out of nowhere and get this golden themselves after a seriously short grind for a challenge of this difficulty. Interestingly though, instead of outright discouraging me, this actually inspired me to come back for the final time; the number one reason for that were the new safe strats that ninz had discovered thanks to their absurd game knowledge. Seeing how this had easily become the most important golden in the game to me, I put the tier 1 compilation on hold to get back to wmfcg - this was only about 10 days ago or so. After redoing ae-end really quickly this time as well as getting a Calamity Ultra pb on my first golden session coming back, I knew that I had finally gotten good enough to where this golden would be feasible for me - such rapid progress was utterly unexpected and honestly left me dumbfounded. Then, the very next day, this day, I just. Did it. I haven't even processed my Calamity Ultra pb yet, and now I just have the golden somehow.
This took me so fucking long, almost 100 hours longer than my original 7dg grind in 2021. The difficulty gap between this and the other tier 1's that I have done recently is incomprehensibly large. The difference between this and 9BB is like the difference between FWG and 1A.
What now? I don't know, I'll figure it out I guess. Definitely not doing something harder than this though that's for sure lmao

this was one of the most chill things i've ever done in this game despite being tier 1 difficulty. it's also the new longest endurance challenge i've done, being longer than shfcg by about 10 minutes, and if you add the max% progress i managed to get, the full run of this was over 90 minutes of deathless glyph gameplay which is cursed as fuck god dam
this is probably the number one measurement of seeing how much i have improved at the game since i essentially did glyph hundo in 3 segments back in 2021 (glyph fcg, void moon, void side b side) so seeing myself pull this off with relative ease is so satisfying it's unreal
just in case someone asks, the name of the permadeath file mod is "hardcore mode"

time? a lil bit
map? good
taylor's demise? secured
pretty wacky turn of events, i had a final screen death essentially the attempt before i got it (right before the px2 death you see at the start but fuck you that doesn't count it was back to back) and that eliminated nearly all the potential nerves i could have felt leading up to hf10. part of me wants to believe it helped, but i play better under pressure so it might as well have been a complete anomaly in my performance.
truth be told, i'm kind of sad i got it already since i enjoyed playing this a lot. left moon berry out though since it wasn't part of the bet (viddie please lock taylor's demise right now), and i did not feel like adding it to extend the grind since the only thing it could have resulted in are cp6 entry scams which were by far my least favorite aspect of this silver.
darkmoon ruins: gamebanana.com/mods/393245 this silver requires cp5 and cp6 to be done deathless back to back, Pyroxene and Hoarfrost respectively.

edit: it turns out this version of the map is outdated since i have not updated it in forever (oops)
the only thing this introduces is flag 27 decheese which you can still cheese to an extent in the new version so it adds literally zero difficulty. also one of the flag 6 timings in this version is buffed so i literally made that harder on myself lol

route was found by m2k, the snow ss hit at 0:14 was a tweak by cmurder (which looks incredibly cool lol). i heavily optimised the jump patterns throughout the level and tweaked the ending to be quicker. love this path a lot
THIS GOLDEN SUCKS. allow me to give you a rundown:
this map consists of 4 screens. the first one is relatively straightforward, or at least it would be if the kevin hit at 0:12 wasn't frame perfect. sure, this is infinitely retryable, but having to wait for this to finally line up sometimes takes so fucking long i could literally make toast, go outside, walk my dog and then binge watch three separate movies right after each other, and this fucking garbage pile of a section would still take longer. remember, this is at the start of the map, so you have to do this over and over again. actual joke.
the bumper jank after that is no help, they fuck you over seemingly at random even when lining up the bumper cycles, all of my deaths there felt uncontrollable and every time this map had the audacity to do that shit to me i genuinely wanted to commit arson on half of the milky way. but whatever, everything else is fine. room 2 is not fine. this is basically 90% of the difficulty, and the reason why this is a 3 star ranked map on hard list in the first place. the first section sucks, it's an awkward feather followed by a difficult but rather consistent demohyper input. then you get a bit of a break until you get to the part at 0:34. in my humble opinion, this is by far the most unfair part of the map. winning a coinflip fourteen times in a row is more skill based than passing this fucking miseryfest of a section. the first ultra is basically random every time, the bumper you have to hit after it is COMPLETE BULLSHIT and does whatever the fuck it wants. the next ultra would be simple since it is setup, if it wasn't for the fact that the quick jump+dash input at 0:35 felt like i was letting jesus take the wheel. you would need ordinal numbers to describe how many times i ran my sorry ass into that purple joke of an obstacle set, or just bonked on the crumble platform. after that, you're still not done because coming right up you have whatever in the living fuck that thing is supposed to be. this ultra is literally the least controllable thing ever, you need a very specific amount of speed for it to work and there are like ten different variables to it. completely stupid. driving a car with two of its wheels missing is more controllable than this thing. following all of that, you finally get a bit of a break (unless you choke stupidly which i did way too many times), until the kevin hit at 0:49. actual braindead input. you have to hit it early so it does not get stuck in the crumble block, and that leaves you dealing with spinners that are essentially right up your ass. maybe this is how gd acheron players feel when they have to pass 31, who knows. the ultra after is very chokeable, the last bumper is questionable albeit more manageable if you dash down. the ending technically has a 1/4 chance of dying to it since you can be teleported early. theoretically you can make this consistent, but thanks to the camera movement that happens when you collect the coin, every visual cue feels very weak and you're better off just taking your chances, because this shit doesn't have enough rng already. the start of room 3 is the worst offender of the screen, that reverse was ruining my life until i found that setup. the ending is spooky but there isn't much to say here. room 4 is just another bullshit way of ending it off. the beginning of it is really precise all around, the badeline fight is pure memory. but most notable of all is the cornerjump at 2:59. this might be the worst ending to a map i have seen in my life. FUCK this input, genuinely. i do not know if etpio was on xanax when he made that part, but jesus christ. i only died here once and hated it. this existing makes the last bumper sequence at the end just about the most terrifying thing to have graced this planet, since getting here requires you to win the lottery about three times over. i almost died to it, but thank the lord i didn't. i probably would have reached the character limit for this description otherwise.
to sum it up... yea, do not touch this map, ever. sorry etpio.
download link: brother have you READ the fucking paragraph i aint linking this shit
The backwards route idea for this map was by Woody. I only contributed to it by redoing the edge hit at the starting area to skip the blue platform at the end. Obviously this isn't optimised, I just wanted to show off the route. I like the end pad hit a lot :]
map: gamebanana.com/mods/150751
"why does your counter show two berries even though you have no red berries collected?"
golden blocks at the end only appear if you have a golden with you. because they're an integral part of one of the golden screens that i needed to practice, i just defaulted to going through the golden section using give_golden each time. and on one of those times i accidentally deleted my savestate after "collecting" the golden in practice, so i couldn't revert it lol

great dashless map by zucchini. i struggled to get consistency going with this golden which was frustrating at times but in the end i really did not mind it too much because this map is just super satisfying to play. cool stuff! maybe i'll get better at short precision goldens someday, adjusting to the right mindset for them included lol

i got mad earlier and minimised nohboard on accident. therefore i am leaving this unlisted video here, which shows berry 3 to end: youtube.com/watch?v=8O7QjC2QdCo&lc=Ugwf-FGKEAxsYLziNI94AaABAg.9sP9sr6anJz9sRMngNfRQl
nohboard was working in this video AND i had my mic on, so you can hear my keyboard inputs. that run is about 80% of the golden's difficulty. if that doesn't work as credibility then you're a fucking microwave
i actually would not be able to mentally handle redoing this after arguably the biggest fluke that i have had (one death to berry 6 and no deaths past it) all because of nohboard dying on me. i would genuinely prefer to engage in a cia torture method for thirty minutes while some guy additionally kicks me in the nuts at a constant interval
me being mad aside, this map is good. the regular golden is also good. the fc golden is not. don't do it. snolls did a great job making genuinely interesting spike jump gameplay, and it deserves at least a casual play. but he himself has said that it was never created with goldening in mind, let alone fc goldening. berry 6 being the worst chokepoint on the entire golden list is living proof of that and i am absolutely not faulting him for me disliking this experience.

this is one of the few times where i actively chose not to do major skips because the flow of the gameplay was just that good and satisfying. if you're looking for an int/adv quality map to play, this is for you. the only thing that bothers me about the golden is cp1 being really slow and cycle dependant, but everything else makes up for it tenfold so i don't mind it. thanks splee for an awesome experience.

this is probably my favorite achievement that i have done in the game since i essentially had to stratfind all of the horrible chokepoints in this level (which there are countless of) to make the golden viable at all. the fact this is even possible is basically a complete miracle. there are several extremely precise timings and movements in the map, but somehow, in some way, there was almost always a jank workaround which made it bearable. cp4 in particular was complete hell and it marks the hardest part of the map by far. this is not the hardest thing i've done; at least not from a difficulty standpoint; but looking at it in all aspects, it might as well be.

Had the time of my life on 2k and 2.5k (fuck the double berry autoscroller and the dark temple/heart seeker section in particular, can't stand that shit) HOWEVER, my 3k luck kicked ass as I only died there with the golden three times (flags 22, 15 and 13). Super happy I was able to luck out and fluke the rest, else my hour count would've probably gotten doubled, lol. Despite this fluke being kind of ridiculous, I feel I have a better grasp of this golden's difficulty than 9B. It feels correctly placed at top 3. I'll also agree with what Clantis said, this golden's gameplay isn't necessarily physically harder than some other tier 1's, but its massive length and structure with all the random chokepoints scattered throughout will make it harder for a person to complete. Mentally it's way worse than other top goldens. I consider mentality to be half the battle, so I'm fine with this being above City on the Moon.
