this fall, on 11.18, percussionist/composer/synthesist Qasim Naqvi shares Slow Television for his Roulette Commission. the program features two new works: a solo study for modular synthesizer and a chamber work for piano, string trio, and three improvisers, featuring Caroline Davis, Grey Mcmurray, Scott Colberg, and members of the International Contemporary Ensemble.
both pieces build on a series of works that utilize a graphic notational system Qasim designed nearly a decade ago. inspired by his study of #EarleBrown and #KrzysztofPenderecki, the works grew out of Qasim’s interest in the interpretive possibilities of open form within an ensemble.
