In conjunction with City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907, LACMA presents a Q&A between Pamela B. Green, director of Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché and Vanessa Schwartz, co-curator of City of Cinema, and Director, Visual Studies Research Institute, USC. Be Natural follows Alice Guy-Blaché, from her rise from Gaumont secretary to her appointment as head of production in 1897, and her subsequent illustrious 20-year career in France and in the United States, as the founder of her own studio and as writer, director, and/or producer of 1,000 films—after which she was veritably erased from history. City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907 is on view at LACMA February 20–July 10, 2022.
