Second Quarter Shop Update! Once again I’ve been gone for work most of this first quarter. A lot of new toys in the shop to take a peek at this time! I’m looking forward to getting the time to play with them..
New Shop Stuff
• Carter Guides – These have been on my bandsaws for a while now and I’m really liking them! They’re a little expensive but worth every penny.
• Set Up Blocks and Fence – Also from Carter, I added the set up blocks and the mag fence. Just some nice things to have right at the saw when needed.
• Veritas Flip Stop – If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I prefer a flip stop whenever possible. I ordered the veritas one and really like it! Traditionally, the biggest drawback to these is that they tend to flex a bit.
• Collins Spring Clamps and Plyers – I’ve been seeing these a lot lately so, added a set to see how they work into my flow. Here’s the link.. @uct/B083F883X7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image
• Finishes Cabinet – I’ve been super happy with this! I thought it was going to be congested in that corner but, it’s actually turned out really well!
• Shooting Board and Plane – You’ve probably seen the Rob Cosman shooting board hanging on the wall for a bit. The Veritas plane was on back order but, has finally arrived so, I’m looking forward to getting this into my workflow. PMV-11 blade – If you’re reading this, you’ll notice that I got the wrong shooting plane from LV.. I’m a righty. So, reordered and got the correct plane.
• Clamp Wall – Always trying to improve shop organization and work flow.. This project video will be coming out in the next couple of months but, it looks like you get a little preview here! Obviously this adds a great deal of storage to some basically unused space but, also opens up a great deal of opportunities at the assembly table.
• Laser Engraver – It’s here and I’m a complete Noob with them! I’ll leave the company nameless at this point as they reached out to me to do a review. I told them I would only do the review if it could be completely honest and unbiased. Long story short, they chose to go in a different direction. So, I ordered one of their machines and will do the review on it anyway. As always, it’s important to me to keep my reviews as fair and honest as I can. That’s also why you don’t see the mid roll ads on my channel.. I don’t advertise products I don’t use or believe in.

• Got asked when the new lathe is going to be in.
o Still in the works.
• Got asked how the Fiddes and the Rubio is holding up against water rings?
o Here’s the test pictures..
Glasses of ice water left on both the Fiddes and Rubio test boards for about 15 hours. These boards were from the comparison video so, both are fully cured.
• Got asked if my wife had decided on the hardware for the bedroom furniture?
o Looks like I’ll be building these myself. Certainly something a little different from the furniture I’ve done in the past.
Coming Up:
• There’s a few projects being designed right now..
o Bedroom Furniture – The nightstands are actually complete.. All the material is on hand for the build. I’m also batching out all of the drawer stock for the dresser at the same time. Makes for a long milling day but, at least it was just one day. Of course the dresser and bed are still coming as well.
o Lathe – It’s coming! Stay Tuned.
o Tool tray for the Roubo – I tested if I’d still be able to reach my tool cabinet with the added width and this project is back on the books! Low on the priority list but, definitely on the list.
o I still have one end table to design and build for our living room.
o Ray’s Shop – He should be getting under way soon on his now shop which will need a lot of new shop furniture. I’m sure there’s lots of videos coming here!
