Are Positions Really Necessary?
There are a lot of benefits to being able to play up in positions.
Some double stop combinations are not possible in first position.
You can avoid nasty string changes using positions.
Going up past an E string B is only possible using positions.
Some 1-4 finger patterns allow practical resolutions using positions.
