Great news for buyers, Tesla just slashed prices across all their vehicles (Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X). If you're in the market for a Tesla, this is like Christmas day for you. Tesla's website says: Until March 2023, certain new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit for eligible buyers. On January 1, 2023, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 qualified certain electric vehicles (EVs) for a tax credit of up to $7,500. Note: This credit amount applies to deliveries now and may change during March 2023, at which point credit amounts may be reduced.
Qualifications include: Customers must buy it for their own use, not for resale Use the vehicle primarily in the U.S. Adjusted Gross Income (“AGI”) limitations MSRP price caps
AGI Limitations: $300,000 for married couples filing jointly $225,000 for heads of households $150,000 for all other filers
Price Caps: The vehicle price includes optional equipment physically attached to the vehicle at the time of delivery and excludes software features, accessories, taxes and fees. The following models currently qualify for federal tax credits for eligible buyers who meet AGI limitations: Model 3: $55,000 Model Y with 5 seats: $55,000 Model Y with 7 seats: $80,000 Price caps set by the federal government are subject to change.
The below starting prices are factoring in the destination fee which is now $1,390 along with the non-refundable order fee which which is $250.
Tesla Model S and Model X dual motor both decreased by ~$10,000 Tesla Model S and Model X Plaid models both decreased by ~$20,000 The rear wheel drive Model 3 now starts at ~$45,600 and if you're eligible for the full $7,500 Tax Credit it comes down to $38,000 The Performance Model 3 starts at ~$55,600 and would be around $48,000 after the full Federal Tax Credit
Th Model Y Long Range Dual Motor is now ~$54,600 and if you are eligible for the full federal tax credit it's down to $47,000. I think that's the lowest it's ever been. The Performance Model Y is now ~$58,600 which isn’t eligible for the federal tax credit as a 5-seater.
The Long Range Model Y is probably the best deal I've seen in a very long time. Even if you are on a strict budget and you can't spend more than $40,000 the RWD Model 3 is less than $40,000 after the full tax credit. Keep in mind that the price cap includes any optional equipment that's physically attached to the vehicle at the time of delivery, but it excludes software features, accessories, taxes and fees. So if you upgrade your tires to the larger size or upgrade your paint color that does affect the price cap, but the good news is Tesla’s site shows you a real time message as you're configuring and when you're about to order it'll tell you if your order is eligible for the full tax credit. I own a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. They're both incredible vehicles. You're getting the safest car in its class. You're getting performance. They're sporty, they're fast, they're fun. They're tech focused, the software the autopilot, the Supercharger network. This the best time to go electric.

0:00 Tesla Project Highland 1:56 Software Benefits 3:20 Sponsor (Incogni) 4:24 Removed Features 5:24 2023 Revamped Model 3
This report was posted by Reuters earlier this week, and although it doesn’t go into very much detail, it states that this new revamp of the Model 3 should go into production in the third quarter of 2023 at two Tesla factories: Giga-Shanghai and Fremont California. It also says that this redesign will be inspired by the last year’s redesign of the Model S. Although Tesla is still the top electric vehicle company in the world, they are still trying to do what all publicly traded companies do: make more money. The main goal of Project Highland includes some changes to the Model 3’s exterior and powertrain performance, but its main focus is to reduce production costs and improve its appeal, given that it was unveiled almost seven years ago in early 2016. According to the unnamed sources who leaked this new project, it aims to optimize the profitability of the Model 3 by decreasing the number of components and complexity in the interior while focusing on features that Tesla owners value, such as the display. If you don’t count the globally recognized industry features that apply to all electric vehicles such as quick acceleration, no fossil fuels, and fewer moving parts then the Tesla Model 3’s most important physical differentiating feature from its competitors is certainly the center touchscreen display. Let’s briefly go over these removed features and how it relates to the new Model 3 redesign: the removal of all ultrasonic sensors and removal of radar in support of the new Tesla Vision which only relies on software and cameras, the removal of passenger seat lumbar support, the removal of the center console tray, the removal of the previously included mobile connector which is now an optional purchase at checkout, and the removal of the cool original glass roof that turned orange and purple when water droplets were on it. With the potential tax credit in 2023 that requires an electric sedan to be under $55,000 to qualify, now’s the time for Tesla to make an already minimalist Model 3 even more simplified with better profit margins. Some things that we can expect Tesla to modify on this new 2023 Model 3 include the removal of the stalks on either side of the steering wheel, which the Model S has already adopted. Although I don’t think the Model 3 will get the yoke steering wheel like the Model S has, the Model 3 could follow the Texas-built Model Y get the same structural battery pack design to drastically reduce the number of parts necessary to make the car. But there’s not a ton Tesla can take away from the Model 3 because some people already think it’s not premium enough compared to its gasoline competitors in the same price range such as the BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class. But I do think if Tesla can somehow implement this new Model 3 re-design in 2023 it would not only bring a fresh new desire to potential buyers but it would also bring the price down to possibly qualify for the tax credit, which would make it an even bigger hit than it is today.

0:00 New Tesla Connector Intro 0:57 Competing Technologies 3:10 Sponsor 4:17 NACS
Tesla just announced their brand new charging standard that has some hidden features, and in this video I’ll explain how it’s a genius move by Tesla and a game changer for electric vehicles. Currently, the two most popular types of fast-charging for EVs are Tesla Superchargers (which were designed specifically for Tesla vehicles) and the Combined Charging System also known as CCS which has become the go-to for non-Tesla vehicles. Both of these use completely different connectors, and up until recently when Tesla finally released their CCS adapter, Tesla vehicles could only fast-charge at Tesla Superchargers if they wanted at least 150 kW of power. Since then, Tesla has grown to dominate the EV industry and now there are twice as many Tesla vehicles than CCS vehicles, and Tesla's Supercharging network has 60% more stations than all CCS-networks combined. This is basically the same physical design of the current Tesla charging connector used for all Tesla vehicles, but now Tesla has opened its schematics and is encouraging all charging networks and vehicle manufacturers to use this charging connector and charge port on their equipment and vehicles going forward. Tesla states that their NACS connector has over a decade of use and 20 billion charging miles to its name, making it the most proven in North America, offering AC charging when at home and up to 1 megawatt of DC fast-charging in one slim package. If it hadn’t been for this feature then I may have agreed that CCS would have a big advantage, but now it’s becoming more and more sensible for the US to adopt Tesla’s NACS connector for all electric vehicles, especially given its current lead for the amount of existing charging stations already equipped with this connector and given Tesla has been adding thousands of new Superchargers every year which is way more than any other automaker has done. There would be even fewer CCS chargers if it weren’t for Volkswagen being forced to create Electrify America as a result of their Diesel-gate scam settlement. The genius business move here is that there is a lot of money up for grabs as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed last year that will invest $7.5 billion to build a national network of EV chargers so that charging EVs is predictable, reliable and accessible. Now with the announcement of their NACS connector, Tesla is leveraging their Supercharger advantage after all the money and time they spent over the last decade building it to be the largest fast-charging network in the world. It’s best for Tesla to do this now to enforce that the NACS connector will become the standard for all EVs which gives them an even bigger lead and a potential revenue source for a very long time. Based on their track record and how they continually are adding new Superchargers, there’s no doubt in my mind that if Tesla gets this funding and convinces at least one other major car manufacturer to use the NACS connector, then that would start the domino effect to the standardization of all EV charging stations and massively accelerating EV adoption.

Tesla is the leader of electric vehicles going into 2023, but they aren’t perfect. Tesla vehicles are missing a lot of amazing features that some other electric vehicles have. This is my list of features that Tesla needs to add soon.
Powered Frunk No Tesla vehicle has a powered automatic front trunk. I think it's an obvious next step for Tesla since there are already third party power frunk kits that are very popular.
Bidirectional Charging With bidirectional charging the vehicle battery could provide power for many different things (including house), feed energy back to power grid, provide resiliency for power outages, and reduce electricity bill.
Apple Music/CarPlay With Apple CarPlay you can view your phone Home Screen and apps on the larger touch screen in the car and use apps natively on the car’s screen which gives you way more variety of apps that are accessible in the car.
360 Degree Birds Eye View This would be nice when trying to park or pull out of tight spaces, especially since Tesla removed ultrasonic sensors. The 360 degree Birds Eye view feature is not hard to do, but Tesla vehicles do not have a front bumper camera.
Blindspot Lights Even though the Tesla touchscreen does show a small alert visual when something is close to one of the sensors, it’s not very obvious or noticeable and it’s counterintuitive to look at the screen to the right if you are worried about your blindspot to the left.
Smart Sentry Mode Tesla’s built-in video surveillance system called Sentry Mode utilizes exterior cameras to record video clips if motion is detected. It can be even better by sending mobile app alerts whenever a Sentry mode clip is triggered, plus filters when playing back the videos in your vehicle. I’d love to have the current date, time, and speed embedded on the dash cam footage.
Ventilated Seat Option A big complaint is how hot the Model 3/Y seats get because they have no airflow. Model S/X have ventilated cooling seats, but I think all Tesla models should have this feature especially given the recent price increases.
Smart Passenger Monitoring I’d like the vehicle to automatically detect if a passenger is still in the car either by the seat occupancy sensor or the interior cabin camera to allow the climate/touchscreen to stay on even if the driver exits the vehicle. I also want to be able to turn off the vents for either of the front seats when climate control is on.
Rain Sensing & Cruise Control Tesla uses their neural network to detect if it’s raining or if the windshield is wet in order to activate the automatic wipers. I’d love to set wipers & high beams to manual at any time no matter if Autopilot is engaged. I’d also love if Tesla gave us standard old dumb cruise control.
Manual Precondition battery One of Tesla’s unique advantages is that the battery automatically preconditions when navigating to a Supercharger. This helps the battery charge faster. However, since Tesla just came out with the CCS adapter now we can charge at non-Tesla fast charging stations and it would be nice to have the option to manually precondition the battery for charging at a non-Tesla charger.

The Tesla Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle and is on pace to become the best selling car period. This is my full review of our 2022 Tesla Model Y Long Range after driving it over 5,000 miles.
The Tesla Model Y comes in 3 variants: Standard Range, Long Range, and Performance. We chose the Long Range Model Y because of what I call the 5 S’s: safety, software, space, Supercharging, and superior range. Ordering a Tesla is very simple. It’s all done on their website, and when you place your order you lock in the vehicle price. We ordered our Long Range Model Y in October 2021, and the total cost was $55,440 but after the latest price increase this model now costs $70,000 after taxes.
We chose white paint, black interior, and 19" gemini wheels. All Teslas come standard with Autopilot. The Model Y is essentially just a larger SUV version of the Model 3, sharing 75% of the same parts. But the Model Y has a hatchback instead of a trunk and is wider and longer with much more storage capacity, which is one of the biggest reasons we wanted a Model Y. The touch screen & software are the same, but the 2022 Model Y UI is extremely fast & snappy as a result of the new AMD Ryzen processor. Tesla's biggest software advantage Tesla, in my opinion, is their navigation maps & trip planner which automatically routes you to Superchargers along the way Voice commands have also gotten way better compared to when I first got my Model 3. Tesla vehicles are known to be the safest in their class, and the Model Y earned 5-star ratings and top safety picks in multiple countries.
The ride quality of this 2022 Model Y is much better than the original 1st-gen Model 3s and Model Ys. As a tall guy it's more comfortable on long drives compared to my Model 3. The double-paned windows result in a pretty quiet and soft ride. It takes curves really well for how big the vehicle is. The suspension & handling feel great, and it's all wheel drive so the 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds is quicker than 90% of the cars on the road that we encounter. Autopilot is the best driver assistance system available on any car in my opinion. It uses the car’s external cameras in conjunction with Tesla’s software to keep in its lane and maintain a set speed which is invaluable on long road trips.
The most important features of an electric vehicle are charging & range. This Long Range Model Y has 330 miles of estimated range. Our Model Y tends to get closer to 300 Wh/mile which means it uses slightly more energy than the EPA estimate. Possibly Tesla’s biggest advantage is its Supercharging network which includes over 35,000 fast-charging stations and is the largest global, fast charging network in the world. But 90% of the charging we do is at home, and this is the easiest & cheapest way to charge. We're happy with our Model Y. If you value safety, space, seamless charging & software then it’s probably worth the money. We love our Model Y & plan to keep it for a long time.

Traveling in a Tesla has become much easier over the last few years as a result of Tesla installing thousands of new Superchargers, but there are still some things you need to know before taking a long trip. Before a trip I make sure I charge my Tesla to 100% the night before. I just change it from the app because it’s usually set to 80% charging limit for daily driving. On our most recent trip to Holland Michigan, the last Supercharger stop was 50+ miles away. Driving too fast is one of the worst things you can do for your efficiency, and it’s something that I struggle with especially on long trips because I’m on the interstate and I usually go 5-10 miles an hour over the speed limit. The mobile charger is handy, not when charging in route but when I actually arrive at my destination. Another adapter that I recently got was this 30 amp adapter for RV outlets which I haven’t had the need for yet, but a fellow Tesla owner said it’s the most used adapter in his car when he travels to national parks and places where there are RV hookups. The CCS charging standard is what most non-Tesla EVs use so the Tesla CCS adapter was something I thought would be handy because CCS chargers are only going to grow in the future, and with all the new Teslas hitting the road this adapter essentially provides 3 main benefits: you can charge at a CCS station if a Supercharger is full, you can possibly charge faster at a CCS station compared to a shared stall at a V2 Supercharger and you can possibly charge at a cheaper rate on a CCS if the Supercharger is more expensive. Leaving some key Tesla settings enabled will drain your battery much more quickly especially if you’re away from a charger for a few days. If I hadn’t turned off Sentry Mode during our 4 days in Holland I wouldn’t have had enough battery to make it back to the Supercharger and I would have had to travel an hour out of my way to charge in Grand Rapids so definitely be mindful of those settings when you need to optimize your range and conserve as much battery as possible. If you have one of the newer standard range Model 3’s then it has an LFP battery which you can charge to 100% for your daily driving. To avoid these fees I usually set my charge limit to 100% whenever I get that message about high usage in order to buy myself some time because there have been times where I’m eating food at a nearby restaurant and my car is about to reach 80% and although I don’t technically need the last 20% to continue on my trip I’ll set my charge limit to 100% on my Tesla app so that it buys me some extra time to finish eating and return to my car without being charged idle fees. I see so many Teslas charging in these spots that are not towing anything, and it may not seem like a big deal but if someone is towing a trailer and pulls up to charge and their spot is taken then they will have to go through the hassle of unhitching their trailer and re-hitching it so just be courteous and don’t charge in these spots unless it’s the only stall open and you’re able to sit in the car in case you need to move out of it quickly.

Here’s the CostAndy Slye2022-09-20 | Sponsored: Go to athleticgreens.com/andyslye to get started on your first purchase and receive a FREE 1-year supply of Vitamin D and 5 travel packs. My Tesla Model 3 battery finally needs replaced. Here's how much it cost!
After 108,000 miles the time has finally come. My battery has been replaced in my Tesla Model 3, but before we get into the details and total cost let’s talk about this "problem" of batteries needing to be replaced on electric vehicles and the expected high cost of replacement. You won’t believe the amount of comments I get on my Tesla videos from people who love their gas cars that always say something like “Your Tesla battery will not last 10 years and it will cost you $20,000 to get it replaced”. Let’s look at Tesla’s current battery warranty information because this gives us an idea of what sort of life we can expect from the battery. For my long range Model 3, the battery and drive unit come with a limited warranty covering a period of 8 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, with a minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period. That means if my battery capacity drops below 70% any time before the warranty expires, Tesla will replace the battery for free. My Model 3 came with an estimated range of 310 miles so technically the range could fall to 217 miles which is 70% of the original capacity, and that would be considered “normal” and would not qualify for a battery replacement at the time of warranty expiration. Luckily my battery has had nowhere near that bad of degradation after four and a half years and over 100,000 miles. The most recent estimated range on my Model 3 showed 295 miles. That comes to about 95% battery capacity which is really good.
Tesla claims their vehicles can retain 90% of their battery capacity even 200,000 miles in. A research firm based in the UK has also backed up that claim after studying over 500 Tesla vehicles, with those at the 150,000-mile mark retaining 90% battery capacity and those over 200,000 still holding about 80% capacity. My experience seems to be on par with that, with my Model 3 battery still at 95% after nearly 5 years & 110,000 miles. A Model 3 battery replacement does not cost $20,000. Based on reports it costs somewhere around $15,000 but that’s only necessary if the battery is no longer covered under the warranty (which most of the very first Model 3 vehicles if driven the average miles per year will still have an active battery warranty in 2025 & 2026). At that point batteries should be even cheaper than today because lithium ion battery pack prices were above $1,200/kWh in 2010, and they have fallen 89% in real terms to $132/kWh in 2021, with the goal to reach a price of less than $100/kWh. Needless to say, I don’t foresee me having to get my Tesla Model 3’s high voltage battery replaced any time soon, if at all during my lifetime ownership of the car.

This is my original video I published in 2021 about the possible $19,000 Tesla "Model 2": youtu.be/jlOjovQwH7w
That video received over 1,000,000 views in the first week, and ever since then I've noticed a strange thing happening on YouTube when it comes to Tesla videos. Many channels copied that video with the same exact title/thumbnail/script and even did it multiple times. I've also seen other YouTubers' content stolen the same way. Have you noticed this happening?
Over the last year or so you've probably seen very clickbaity Tesla videos showing up on YouTube. There are some mysterious channels that are vaguely named something to do with tech or Tesla or Elon Musk. And I think I may have sparked some of these channels and videos. About a year and a half ago in early 2021 I did a video titled The New Tesla Model 2 = Game Over for Gas. In that video I was trying to explain the potential new EV tax credit and how it could be paired with Tesla's upcoming new compact hatchback (which doesn't have an official name yet but many people refer to as the Model 2). I explained all the dominos that were in effect to potentially lead to a $19,000 Tesla. Once I published that video, it became one of my most viewed videos with over 1 million views in the first week. After that happened I started seeing so many other videos that were a complete word-for-word copy of my video including exact copies of my title and exact copies of my thumbnail. Another thing I noticed from that video is the title said "Game Over" and I started seeing the words "Game Over" on so many of these clickbait Tesla videos that never show a person on camera. It's multiple channels like this that are just voiceovers (sometimes from a robot reading a transcript) and some of these channels have completely different voices on their videos. Obviously most of the channels that are copying other's content and re-hashing scripts and thumbnails are only created in order to make the most money from YouTube ads. They pick a hot topic (Tesla, Elon Musk, etc) and slap ads on videos that are sometimes just straight up lies such as all the videos from this year that I see on YouTube titled something like "Tesla Phone is Here: Confirmed!" when in fact Tesla has not made a phone at all. Hopefully you can be mindful when watching Tesla videos on YouTube and not spend your valuable time on these videos that are either copied from others are clickbait lies about Tesla. Thanks for watching this PSA!

I don’t have a solar roof yet so when EcoFlow asked if I wanted to review their portable power station called the Delta Pro along with their portable solar panels, I thought it would be perfect. Let's look at how the Delta Pro can be useful in your home then I’ll show you why I think this is one of the best accessories if you own a Tesla or any electric vehicle.
A single Delta Pro unit has 3600 watts of AC output with a wide range of ports including four 20 amp outlets which are just like your standard home power outlet, one 30 amp outlet which is similar to an RV hookup, four USB-A ports two of which are fast charging, and two USB-C ports plus many other types.
A big reason I thought this would be a nice addition not only to my home but to my Tesla Model Y was because the Model Y doesn’t have any power outlets in the vehicle at all. Having this when traveling certain places is super useful for me and my wife because we film weddings, and for our most recent wedding we extended the trip into a vacation so having the Delta Pro would allow us to charge our laptops while we offload and edit the footage plus charge all our camera batteries while we were away from home. This is a convenient and useful way to power all our devices from our car wherever we are and was essentially like making our Tesla Model Y just as good as a Rivian R1T in that regard.
Even better is the expandable design when connected with other EcoFlow units it can become an integrated home power solution and go all the way up to 25 kWh of capacity which can prove to be vital in more extreme events like blackouts that last for days. I plugged my fridge, coffee bean grinder, and electric kettle all into the Delta Pro, and the Delta Pro’s fans kicked on which is also a great feature because this allows it to have a consistent output of power without overheating, and the Delta Pro worked great while powering all of these appliances.
When I charged my Delta Pro at home the input speed was about 1600 watts, and to fully charge from 0-100% it would take less than 3 hours on a standard home outlet which is crazy fast. The portable 400w solar panel charged the Delta Pro at a max of 326 watts which is good if you’re in a secluded location for a while & have the time to adjust the solar panel manually throughout the day. When the solar panel is folded it can fit next to the Delta Pro in my Tesla Model Y with one of the backseats folded down so this would be convenient to have when camping or in a remote area and you need to continually charge devices for days on end.
After some research I found 2 items that are needed to charge my Tesla using the Delta Pro. The 1st item is this RV connector adapter that costs about $40 on Amazon and the 2nd item is this neutral ground plug for about $15 on Amazon. Although the Delta Pro is a pricey at around $3400 and it’s fairly heavy for the average person, it is solidly built with a wide variety of useful ports along with a high capacity and the ability to be connected to other units (especially the solar panels) to make it a truly usable backup battery in emergency situations.

Teslas are the best performing and safest cars on the road. But the best thing about Teslas are the owners! So with that in mind, the second annual Tesla Owners Takeover took place on Aug 6, 2022 in San Luis Obispo California, and it was the largest Tesla owners event in North America. It was hosted by the amazing Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley. I was fortunate enough to be a guest speaker along with many other Tesla/EV influencers including Sandy Munro, Tesla Raj, Ross Gerber, i1Tesla, Tesla Joy, Teslatino, Kyle Connor, Unplugged Performance, and more. It was full of educational workshops and seminars, contests of best-in-class customized Teslas, prize giveaways, rare original Tesla Roadsters, and exhibitor expo of unique Tesla accessories, services & products. I saw a Lucid Air in person and finally got to drive a Rivian R1T truck, along with an UBCO adventure electric bike and an Arcimoto FUV. Check out my recap of the event!

There’s no better way to get more electric vehicles on the road than to take the best selling gasoline vehicle over the last 40 years and turn it into a powerful sleek electric version of itself. This is the brand new 2022 all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck which is one of the most important vehicles of our time. This is my first impressions of the features and performance from the perspective of a Tesla owner since I own a Model 3 and Model Y. The Ford F150 Lightning starts around $40,000 with a decent range starting at 230 miles, all the way up to 320 miles with the extended range battery on the XLT and Lariat trims, but this one is the top of the line Platinum trim. The F-150 Lightning is looks nearly identical to its gas equivalent other than the Lightning badges on the sides along with the charge port door and the light bar on the front. The frunk can not only be used for storage but comes in handy when camping or tailgating if you need a few extra seats. The F-150 Lightning interior is very high quality and a step above Model 3/Y interior but that’s not a fair comparison because this is a six-figure truck and I’d say this interior is on par with the six-figure Model S Plaid interior. A big reason why the owner chose this truck over a Tesla Model X is this has Apple CarPlay which allows you to navigate your iPhone apps using the touchscreen. One of my favorite interior features is the center console area folds out to reveal a big flat surface area that can be used as a table workspace. This truck takes up a much bigger space than my Model Y so sitting up at such a high vantage point is nice whiled driving. Tesla Autopilot is still the best driver assistance software, and although BlueCruise is not as feature rich or advanced as Tesla Autopilot, it’s still a good ADAS that will definitely help people drive safer. Tesla still requires hands on the wheel when Autopilot is enabled while BlueCruise lets you truly go hands-free as long as your eyes face forward the vast majority of the time. The short amount of time I had with BlueCruise it seemed to do a decent job at the basics: lane keeping & distance keeping. Just like any electric vehicle one of the best benefits of the F-150 Lightning compared to a gas truck is the ability to charge at home overnight while sleeping & to never have to stop at a gas station. Most pickup truck owners that I know are guys with families and they mainly need to be able to sit 4-5 people in the cabin while having some extra room for occasional trips or hauling things short distances. If you drive less than 250 miles daily and can charge for cheap at home, you’ll greatly benefit from having an electric truck like this. You’ll find if you’re on a road trip you can charge quickly at an Electrify America DC fast charging station. This is the most powerful, most useful & most comfortable pickup truck I’ve ever driven

Tesla has many advantages over legacy cars, but there’s still one part of Tesla ownership that even the biggest fans say needs improvement. And that is the service. Service is a huge part of owning a car, and Tesla is still a relatively new and young car company. Most legacy vehicles can be serviced at a nearby dealership or at a third party mechanic. However, Tesla’s single biggest advantage when it comes to service is their mobile technicians. My closest Tesla service center is 2 hours away in Cincinnati Ohio which sounds like a nightmare but after owning my Model 3 for over 4 years now, every one of my service appointments has been completed by a Tesla mobile technician who came to my location and fixed the issue without me having to drive to a service center and take time out of my schedule. It’s actually been really convenient. But there’s a limit to that. Only a certain amount of repairs can be done by the mobile technician. Most major service requires the car to be taken to a service center which, for me, is at least a 4 hour round trip drive. The sparse amount of service centers is becoming a concern given that Tesla recently delivered a million new vehicles in the span of one year. With this huge onslaught of Teslas hitting the road, service will become more and more important as an owner. And Elon himself recently emphasized how important service is when he tweeted “Working on Tesla North American service. Goal is 2/3 of cars receive same-day service, no wait.” That’ll be amazing if they can do that because right now Tesla struggles with wait times. When I had to get my bumper replaced a few years ago it took 5 weeks just to get the bumper from Tesla to my local body shop, and that was before any supply shortages. Now, the growing number of new Tesla vehicles is putting pressure on the service capacity, and it can take weeks to get an appointment scheduled depending on the location. It’s even gotten to the point where a recent report stated that entry-level Tesla workers, who have no training in servicing cars, are being placed at service centers to work on vehicles, although it’s for simple tasks like changing tires. As for me, my wife’s brand new Model Y has a number of problems that need serviced, and I thought this would be a great time to document the current state of Tesla Service and show you what Tesla service is like and how long it takes to get these problems fixed. To begin, I made the first service request on June 1st and the soonest available appointment was 12 days out for June 13th.

Paint Protection Film (DIY: geni.us/TesBrosPPF ) Since electric vehicles have very small grilles compared to gas cars, it leaves the front paint more susceptible to rock chips and paint damage so for both my Model 3 and Model Y I took them into a professional auto detailing shop to get PPF installed for long lasting paint protection.

See important Masterworks disclosures: mw-art.co/37WwvbD
Last month I toured the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas, and while I was there Tesla delivered their next-generation Model Y vehicles with the new 4680 battery cells and structural pack. These vehicles are what Tesla fans like myself have been waiting for since Battery Day. It made me that much more excited for me to possibly get one of these vehicles. However, after the recent rumors that came out about this new 4680 Model Y from Texas, I have changed my mind, and in this video I’ll explain why. Tesla’s new factory in Austin will produce these new 4680 battery vehicles - of which, the Model Y will be the first model to get these features.
I ordered a Long Range Dual Motor Model Y in Oct 2021, and until now my plan was to delay my delivery in hopes of getting a new 4680 Model Y from Texas. But a recent rumor stated Tesla is going to be putting the 4680 batteries in a brand new variant of the Model Y called Standard Range AWD. This new Standard Range Model Y will have dual motors, new 4680 structural battery pack, 279 miles of range, 0-60 speed of 5 seconds, and starts at $59,990.
Tesla vehicle prices have increased substantially over the past year, but one of the benefits of buying a Tesla is that you can order anytime online and once you pay the order fee, that locks in the price. 50 miles of extra range comes in handy in many different scenarios that I’ve experienced first hand such as driving during cold winter temperatures, driving in rain/snow, losing range to phantom drain when the vehicle is parked, using heater or A/C, traveling with a car full of people/cargo - all of these impact range.
We don’t know how much faster these new cells will charge, but I saw a post on a Tesla owner’s Facebook group that stated a Tesla technician with one of the new 4680 Model Ys said it recharges 60% in 20 minutes at a Supercharger. If you’re using the Supercharger primarily for long trips as they were intended then the slightly faster supercharging speed will only be utilized for a small percentage of the overall lifetime charging of the vehicle since the majority is done at home on a slow charger.
Another reason I won’t go for the Standard Range Model Y is because it’s likely that the new 4680 cells are not LFP chemistry which means they won’t be able to charge to 100% for daily driving. That means daily driving range is only about 223 miles because in order to preserve long term battery health, 90% is the recommended daily charge limit for non-LFP batteries and you don’t want to dip below 10% if you can avoid it.
Many people thought these new 4680 Model Ys were going to be cheaper since that’s what Tesla said at Battery Day, and although they could very well be cheaper in the future, I think the cost savings really benefits Tesla, the company, more than the customer. Tesla will have a much cheaper efficient method of scaling battery production which all of their vehicles will eventually rely on, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the savings will or can be passed down to the customer especially right now.

2022 is the first time ever that Tesla is putting 3 different batteries in their vehicles, and it’s important to know the difference.
Tesla’s 1st battery option: Nickel Cobalt Aluminum (NCA). Nearly a decade ago, Tesla began utilizing battery cells called “the 18650” which were manufactured by Panasonic for the Model S and Model X and they are still equipped with these battery cells to this day, with a single vehicle battery pack containing thousands of these cells. A few years later in 2017 with the launch of the Model 3, Tesla and Panasonic developed a new and improved type of battery cell called “the 2170”, which can store a lot more energy than its predecessor. According to Elon Musk at the time, it was the highest energy density cell in the world and the cheapest. The 2170 cell is around 50% larger by volume than the 18650, but it can deliver almost double the current. The 2170 battery cell is currently what’s used in all of the dual motor variants of the Model 3 & Model Y. Currently the Model S, Model X, and dual motor variants of Model 3 and Model Y are all powered by NCA batteries.
Tesla’s 2nd battery option: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP). The first Teslas with these batteries were the vehicles made in China, but they have now made their way to Europe and the US. Currently Tesla says they’re putting LFP batteries in all single motor models which are now simply called Rear Wheel Drive on Tesla’s website, and right now there is only one vehicle in the US that comes in a Rear wheel drive option - the base Model 3. These new rear wheel drive models started shipping in late 2021. But there’s a new secret Model Y that could be coming soon which may have an LFP battery so stick around to the end of the video to find out more on that. To check if your Tesla has an LFP Battery, open the charging menu on the touchscreen and go to Set Limit. If the battery image displays "50%" and "100%" then your vehicle has an LFP Battery. If the battery image displays "Daily" and "Trip" then your vehicle is not equipped with an LFP Battery.
Tesla’s 3rd battery option: 4680 Tabless cell which was announced in 2020 at Tesla’s Battery Day event. This new battery is expected to change the future of electric cars by massively scaling battery production and producing bigger cells that cost less. This new battery will have simpler manufacturing and fewer parts with 5x energy, 16% more range, 6x power, and faster Supercharging. These batteries also come with a brand new vehicle architecture that starts with single piece castings of high pressure die cast aluminum for the front and rear. These new structural batteries are Tesla’s first ever dual-use battery - used as an energy device and as a structure to the car. These structural batteries improve mass and range. Tesla’s factory in Austin, Texas will serve as the main hub for producing these new 4680 batteries and the new structural vehicles - of which, the Model Y will be the first to get these features.

I drove a brand new 2022 Tesla Model Y Performance. This dual motor performance Model Y goes 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It has an estimated range of 303 miles and comes with 21’’ Überturbine Wheels, Performance Brakes, Lowered suspension, and Aluminum alloy pedals. All Teslas come with Autopilot which maintains speed and keeps within its lane, but this one has the $12,000 Full Self-Driving add-on which gives it more driver assistance features like Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control along with any future FSD features. 2 years ago I accompanied a friend when he picked up his 2020 Performance Model Y, and after seeing this 2022 model it seems like Tesla has improved the fit & finish. I'm a tall guy and am able to fit comfortably in the backseats with enough head and leg room which is great. The Model Y has a deep frunk area that is handy for storing extra items, and there is the automatic hatchback liftgate that allows quick folding of the backseats to maximize cargo room, and there’s additional storage in the lower compartment area so in total this has 76 cubic feet of cargo space. I’ve heard from others that the Model Y suspension is not that great so if you want the best ride quality in the Model Y you may want the Long Range model with the 19” wheels to try to minimize the bumpiness.
This Model Y has an estimated range of 300+ miles, but you will not get that if you’re enjoying the funnest aspect of this car which is the performance. The 0-60 launch in under 4 seconds still makes me queasy any time I do it, and although it’ll make you smile and laugh if you’re constantly hitting that accelerator pedal you’ll likely have lower efficiency and get less than 300 miles of range. Since mid 2021 Tesla has ditched radars for their Autopilot & Full Self Driving features. They’ve gone to “vision only”, using the cameras and software to achieve their driver assistance technology. Every Tesla has a small 12v battery in the front to control the lower powered electronics, and unfortunately the lead acid version seems to die sooner than expected which could leave a driver stranded so this lithium ion version is a much welcomed upgrade. Most likely the Performance Model Y will take be the first vehicles to get the new 4680 battery from Giga Texas. It’s going to be interesting to see how Tesla rolls out the new 4680 Model Ys because they’ll either have to limit power and/or range to keep the price the same or they will have to sell a more expensive version. The 2022 Model Y is expensive, but if you have the budget for it you’re getting an all electric high performing car with over 300 miles of estimated range, access to over 30,000 Tesla Superchargers, and a spacious comfortable interior that should stand the test of time for the foreseeable future.

Even though it’s the slowest Tesla with just a single motor in the back, my Model 3 is still quicker than nearly every other car I come across while driving. I love only driving with one pedal for the majority of the time since the car automatically brakes when I let off the accelerator which not only helps feed energy back into the battery and improve range but it also prevents wear & tear. As much as I love software updates, as an owner I’m at the mercy of Tesla software engineers so the main downside is if a new software update changes things too much for my liking, there’s no way to revert back to the way it was. Autopilot (including automatic steering, accelerating & braking within its lane) have all been invaluable to me over the last few years since I drive way more than the average driver. Tesla Superchargers were one of the biggest reasons I bought a Model 3. That paired with Autopilot has made my Model 3 the best road trip car I’ve ever driven. My Model 3 battery has only lost about 2.2% of estimated range after almost 4 years and 100,000 miles which is incredible. For the same price I paid out of pocket, which was around $50,000, you can actually get a much better Model 3 now that has dual motor all wheel drive and about 50 miles more range than mine. Tesla has some of the safest cars ever made, and I’m a pretty safe driver so my cost for full coverage insurance is $125/month, and Tesla is rolling out their own insurance that is currently in a few states already. My local tire shop has given me free rotations as well so I’ve had good fortune with tires so far. There are certain things that mobile service cannot do, and it’s not uncommon for a Tesla owner like myself to have to travel 3 hours round trip just for service because currently Service centers are not as widespread as Superchargers. I love the Tesla mobile app which is so useful for controlling many aspects of the car and also seeing helpful information such as the current speed and location if someone else is driving the car. the Model 3 charge port door is the most finicky part of the car, and I wondered how well it would hold up over time especially in a climate that gets all 4 seasons like here in Louisville KY. I spent a total of $1,620 for all maintenance and repairs, and over half of that total cost was for an optional 2 year checkup and for something that all cars need at some point (tires). My off-peak electricity rate at home when I charge my car is 7 cents per kWh on average I’ll assume $60/year for Supercharging if I didn’t have free miles. If I didn’t have free Supercharging my total charging cost after 100,000 miles is just over $2,000, and it’s actually less than $1900 in reality. I’m saving about $10,000 every 4 years by avoiding gas and oil. And if I keep my Model 3 for 10 years, that comes to an estimated $25,000 in savings. As you can see, my Model 3’s cost of ownership is really attractive when compared to internal combustion engine vehicles.

0:00 EV vs Gas Intro 0:39 EV Battery Advantages 4:38 Sponsor (Brillant) 5:36 EV Motor Advantages
According to a study, electric vehicles will represent 2/3 of passenger vehicle sales by 2040. This video shows exactly how an electric motor and battery are far superior to the gasoline engine when it comes to vehicles. I won’t deny that the internal combustion engine has served us very well for over 100 years, but like Bob Dylan said “Times they are a-changin”. You may have seen a recent video of a frustrated Tesla owner blowing up his 2013 Model S with dynamite because Tesla quoted him $22,000 for an out of warranty battery pack replacement. Obviously that is a very expensive repair bill, but that’s not an accurate depiction of reality for most EV owners especially with newer electric vehicles since that one that was blown to bits was nearly 10 years old.
An EV battery is actually a proven technology and under current estimates, most EV batteries should last somewhere between 10-20 years before they need to be replaced. My Long Range Tesla Model 3 has a battery and drive unit warranty of 8 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, with a minimum 70% retention of battery capacity over the warranty period. This might sound surprising to you if you’ve ever experienced your smartphone take a battery life hit after just a couple of years, but phone batteries are not the same as car batteries. Each of these charge cycles counts against the life of the battery, and after hundreds of full cycles, a lithium-ion phone battery begins to lose a significant part of the capacity compared to when it was new. My 2018 Tesla Model 3 is almost 4 years old, and it still has a rated range of 301 miles which is only 9 miles less than when I got it brand new. Based on the battery and drive unit warranties that come with EVs along with the technological advancements, an EV battery will most likely never need to be replaced during the ownership of the car. And given the steady decline of lithium ion battery costs, even if a battery replacement is needed in the future after the warranty expires, the price should be much cheaper than it is today.
Internal combustion engine vehicles generally run at about 20% efficiency, meaning that 80% of the energy content of their fuel is wasted, compared to EVs which put about 80% of their input energy into turning the wheels. An easy way to understand this is to think of it like this: a combustion engine creates heat with a side effect of motion, while electric motors create motion with a side effect of heat. The EV motor creates heat while creating motion just like a gas engine generates heat when creating motion but with different means and with vastly improved efficiencies.
While gas engines tend to perform better at very high speeds, most legal speed limits are no more than 75 miles per hour which gives no advantage to gas cars. Electric vehicles, on the other hand, are able to accelerate much more quickly which comes in handy for daily driving tasks such as merging or passing instead of having a useless top speed that will most likely never be used.

The are more Tesla vehicles on the road than ever. Although Tesla is one of the youngest car makers, they have quickly become an industry leader. In 2021 Tesla became the most valuable car company in the world, with the top 2 best-selling electric vehicles globally. This video will cover everything you need to know about Tesla vehicles to help you decide which one to buy in 2022. Currently there are 4 Tesla vehicles: Model S, Model 3, Model X & Model Y. There are 2 upcoming vehicles: Cybertruck & 2nd Gen Roadster.
Tesla prioritizes safety. With its all-electric architecture, Tesla vehicles provide a very low probability of rollover risk & occupant injury. Tesla has achieved a 5-star safety rating for all its vehicles. A Tesla’s battery pack position and weight reduces rollover risk and improves emergency avoidance handling. Their side sill structure supports the chassis to absorb impact energy and protect occupants and battery. The rigid body and fortified battery help to reduce and prevent cabin intrusion. They have large crumple zones in the front and rear to soften impact. There are 8 cameras that provide 360 degrees of visibility while 12 ultrasonic sensors can detect objects. All Teslas with Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot collision warning, and lane departure avoidance.
Tesla’s software is the core of their vehicles and allows them to stay at the cutting edge of car technology. A center touch screen controls nearly all aspects of the car, and the free mobile app controls certain functions of the car from anywhere since all Tesla vehicles come with built-in LTE. Tesla releases software updates pretty frequently so the car gets better over time for free. Autopilot is Tesla’s advanced safety & convenience features that are designed to assist you with the most burdensome parts of driving and comes standard with all vehicles. Autopilot enables your car to steer, accelerate & brake automatically within its lane. For a one time fee of $10,000 or $199/month you can get Full Self-Driving Capability which adds more features like Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, Navigate on Autopilot, Autosteer on city streets, and Traffic and Stop Sign Control along with any other future features that Tesla adds up to the point of full autonomy.
Driving an electric vehicle has advantages including front trunks that add more storage space, no more stopping at gas stations, no more oil changes, running on electricity that is usually much cheaper than gas, less maintenance due to fewer moving parts, a very quiet drive due to the lack of a rattling engine, and instant torque that leads to quick acceleration. Teslas come with a mobile charger that can charge on a regular outlet. One of the best parts of owning a Tesla is charging at home overnight so you always wake up to a full charge. On road trips, Tesla’s onboard navigation will automatically guide you to Supercharger stations along your route which can charge a Tesla at rates up to 1000 miles per hour.

Tesla wants the mobile app to be the primary hub for car owners, solar owners, and even non-Tesla EV owners when they start using Tesla Superchargers. Recently we got a new feature called Live Remote Sentry Mode view which gave us the ability view the car’s cameras from the app, and last week we got another update that added customization features, better widgets, and more. Sometimes I take for granted how much I rely on my phone to unlock my car and manage my car from wherever I am so although these tech features are fantastic when they work, they are inconvenient when they don’t work so it’s always important to keep the key card with you as backup to unlock and lock your car in case the app has issues.
As a Model 3 owner I did a video explaining the total cost of maintenance & service after 3 years so watch that if you haven’t yet, but none of my repairs have prevented me from actually driving the car safely to get to a destination, and they have all been performed at my location so it didn’t negatively affect my schedule. I’d personally rank my Model 3 reliability very high, but I do know that if there’s one thing Tesla could stand to invest more time and money in, it would be their service.
One Model 3 owner said his missing USB-C and wireless chargers have been fixed by Tesla’s mobile service, but he had to personally schedule an appointment with Tesla’s mobile service to get his car fixed which some may argue that Tesla should have initiated the retrofit themselves without relying on the customer to notice it and handle it. Other than service, Tesla’s next biggest focus should be continuing to build out their Supercharger network and they are doing just that with their first ever Supercharger station in Alaska. Fortunately Tesla realized this was going to be a hurdle years ago so they decided to get a head start on building out its Supercharger network, which is now the most extensive global fast-charging network with 30,000 Superchargers worldwide. With Tesla’s plan to open up Superchargers to non-Tesla EVs, they have stated that their goral is to triple the size of the Supercharger network within two years which would be not only amazing, but probably necessary with all the EVs coming in the next couple of years.
Right now, the new EV tax credit for Tesla has not officially passed. Nothing is guaranteed, things could change, and there’s still a long process to go but if you’re planning on buying a new Tesla here’s what’s currently in the bill. The price of the AWD Model Y has increased by $10,000 in the last 9 months. people who probably ordered a few months ago may end up getting the best deal since they locked in the price before the latest increases and they will probably take delivery in 2022 and take advantage of the new tax credit if it gets passed.

A new update called Sentry Mode Live Camera Access is currently limited to iOS & requires premium connectivity, but the fact they gave us this feature without raising the price is nice. However, I'm curious to see how much battery this uses because right now having Sentry Mode enabled drains the battery much more quickly than when it’s turned off so if someone is constantly viewing the live feed, forcing the car to stream the video over the LTE connection might take up more juice.
Great news for EVs came last week when Ryan from The Kilowatts YouTube channel & his co-driver Josh set a new EV cannonball record with a Long Range Tesla Model S which means they traveled cross country from New York to California in record time, just over 42 hours which is the fastest for any electric vehicle
Since the standard range Model 3 has a 55-kWh battery & the standard range Model Y has 60 kWh, this means the 45 GWh battery order could result in nearly 800,000 Tesla vehicles which is great for anyone looking to get a standard range Tesla without risking long delays with deliveries
Any of the new enhanced credits for cars assembled in the United States would not take effect until Jan 1, 2022 and that’s when most Tesla vehicles sold from then on would be eligible for an $8,000 or $10,000 credit depending on which version gets approved. For the credit on new Teslas, the MSRP cap set by both the House & Senate would result in all Tesla vehicles being eligible except the Model S and Model X. Because the extra $500 or $2,500 credit would not apply until 2022, it could lead to people delaying their purchase until 2022 which is what I’m doing with my Model Y
I ordered my Long Range Model Y in October & since then the price has increased by $3,000 so my suggestion if you want to buy a Tesla & want the largest potential tax credit is to go ahead & order now so you can lock in your price before it possibly increases again. They will be safer due to the structural design but my hope is that the Senate EV tax credit makes it through & I can time it to where I can get a $10,000 credit on my $54,000 Model Y with the brand new 4680 battery which would bring it down to less than $45,000 for what could be in my opinion, the best Tesla ever made up to now. What’s crazier is the Model Y was only $49,990 earlier this year so the people who ordered it then & have been delaying delivery could possibly delay delivery until the new 4680 Model Y is here & they could get it for less than $40,000 if the $10,000 tax credit is in place

Tesla’s brand new release of Full Self-Driving came out yesterday and here is why I was wrong about it. Big thanks to Athletic Greens for sponsoring today’s video. Before we go drive the Tesla and experience FSD Beta for the first time, let me quickly explain what it is. Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta simply refers to a single feature called “Autosteer on City Streets” that is part of the entire FSD Capability suite of features that Tesla currently sells for their vehicles. Autosteer on City Streets has been listed as “coming soon” for years on Tesla’s website, but it was only about a year ago when Tesla started to release it to a few select owners in order to test it out. Now, Tesla has started slowly rolling it out to more owners based on their Safety Score. Drivers who scored 99 and 100 have started to get it, but unfortunately I can’t seem to score higher than 97. So in response I tweeted this a couple weeks ago: “Imagine paying $8,000 for Tesla Full Self-Driving in 2018 then after 3 years you’re told to wait 6 more months for a button that, when pressed, puts you in a waiting queue to maybe receive a beta version of the software, but then getting told you’re not a good enough driver for it.”
That triggered a lot of people, but my point was that maybe Tesla should release it to the earliest buyers of FSD who have been the most supportive customers over the years. And the biggest rebuttal to this was that Autosteer on City Streets is still very much a work in progress and can be dangerous when put in the hands of an inattentive driver. So to put it to the test I met up with a fellow Tesla owner who lives in my city who has FSD Beta and we took it downtown to see if it’s ready for a wide release like I suggested or if it’s still not ready for prime time just yet.

Tesla is one of the most exciting companies and are changing the world, but in order to do so they must be very forward thinking. As a Tesla owner for 3+ years, I can’t help but think of all the delays Tesla has experienced over the last decade and the future delays that could affect them going forward.
Here’s a brief history of Tesla's biggest delays and missed projections from the last few years:
April 2016: Model X has delays due to a part shortage that lasted longer than expected. Model X was the most complex assembly of any Tesla vehicle at that point in time.
October 2016: Elon said a Tesla vehicle will be able to drive in fully autonomous mode from Los Angeles to New York City by the end of 2017. Tesla also said all its cars from then on will have hardware capable of full self-driving (Hardware 2.5)
January 2017: Elon was asked when the Full Self Driving features will noticeably depart from Enhanced Autopilot features and he replied “3 months maybe, 6 months definitely”. That meant Elon was expecting Tesla’s FSD capabilities to be quite the distinguishable upgrade from what EAP was at the time (Autosteer, Auto lane change, Traffic aware cruise control, summon, Autopark, Navigate-on-Autopilot)
November 2017: Tesla reveals the Semi truck and 2nd generation Roadster. The Roadster was set to be released in 2020. There are some people who paid $250,000 nearly 4 years ago and still haven’t gotten their car.
September 2018: Nearly a year after the deadline of Elon’s original estimate of a fully autonomous cross country drive, he updates his prediction of the cross country drive to probably happen with the release of Tesla software Version 10.
February 2019: Elon said “I think we will be feature-complete on full self-driving this year, meaning the car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up, take you all the way to your destination without an intervention this year."
April 2019: Tesla realizes Hardware 2.5 needs to be upgraded in order to be capable of full self-driving and starts putting the next version of the FSD computer (Hardware 3) in their vehicles. Tesla holds their Autonomy Investor Day where Elon Musk claimed Tesla should have robotaxis on the roads in 2020.
August 2019: Elon tweets that all buyers of the Full Self Driving add-on would be given priority early access to software updates. Later Elon said Tesla’s full self-driving mode could arrive as early as the end of 2019, saying “While it’s going to be tight, it still does appear there will be at least a limited early access release of a feature complete self-driving feature this year.”
November 2019: Tesla unveils the Cybertruck. Initial production and first deliveries were expected to happen in late 2021. In late 2020 Tesla finally started to release the beta version of Full Self Driving to a very limited number of owners.
December 2020: Elon receives an Axel Springer Award in Germany, and Elon was asked when Tesla can deliver full autonomy. Elon said “I’m extremely confident that Tesla will have level 5 next year, extremely confident, 100%”.
September 2021: Elon announced that the Cybertruck will be delayed until late 2022, and the Roadster is delayed until 2023.

In this video I’ll break down the new proposed changes to the EV tax credit and reveal Tesla’s genius plan that could potentially save you $10,000 if you buy a Tesla in the near future. New proposals for modifying the current EV tax credit could help speed up EV adoption and save buyers thousands of dollars, but some people want to keep the most dominant player, Tesla, out of the equation.
Current EV tax credit example: if I owe the federal government $10,000 in taxes and I buy a qualifying electric vehicle that’s eligible for the full credit, then my federal tax liability lowers by $7500. However, if I owe the government less than $7,500 in total annual tax liability, the EV tax credit only goes up to what I owe, and I don't get any refund check for the difference.
Tesla assembles all their US cars in the US so this would increase their potential tax credit to $10,000 which could lead to the best deal in car history: a single-motor Cybertruck with 250 miles of range that costs $29,000. While non-US automakers will be affected the most, some US automakers will lose out on the credit in certain cases such as Ford who currently produces the Mustang Mach-E in Mexico so that car would be ineligible for the extra $2500 unless they moved the final assembly to the US.
Making the tax credit refundable is a big change because instead of it being a credit that’s limited to no more than the amount you owe in federal taxes for the year, this will make it so that you would get a check for the difference. For example, if I owe $5,000 in federal taxes, it would not only credit that amount but I could potentially receive a refund check up to $5,000 depending on what EV was purchased.
Currently the only Teslas that would be eligible if the $40k price limit proposal passes would be the Standard Range Plus Model 3 ($39,990) and the single-motor cybertruck which hasn’t even been released yet. A Tesla buyer could theoretically purchase a stripped down version of whatever vehicle model they want to lock in the tax credit, then once they get their car they can pull out their Tesla app, go to the software upgrades section, and pay to unlock the features that were originally excluded like more range, autopilot, and more. But it is a very clever way for Tesla to utilize over the air software upgrade capabilities to ensure their customers are eligible for the full incentives going forward in case any of these strange price limit caps are included in the final bill.
The Clean Energy for America act still needs to go through the proper legislation and anything could change or be removed in the process, but this certainly looks like the leading proposal to reform the US EV incentive program, and whatever Tesla does end up doing hopefully the final bill will lead to more people being able to reasonably transition to an electric vehicle as soon as possible.

Myth #1: "An electric vehicle’s battery needs to be replaced frequently or even eventually." Lithium-ion batteries continuously degrade from the moment they are first used as a result of the fundamental chemistry of the battery, but the degradation is nowhere near as rapid or drastic as some people think especially with today’s battery technology. Tesla’s impact report shows that the capacity retention of Model S & Model X batteries are averaging around 90% after 200,000 miles. I have confidence my battery will last the entire life of the car.
Myth #2: "Electric vehicles are worse for the environment because of the emissions from production, electricity, and batteries." Initial production of an electric vehicle can create more pollution than producing a gasoline car, mainly because of the battery. But over the lifetime of the vehicle, total greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing, charging, and driving an EV are typically much lower than the total emissions associated with a gasoline car. Tesla claims that every battery used in R&D or returned from the field that cannot be remanufactured are recycled, and Tesla can recover about 92% of battery materials.
Myth #3: "Electric vehicles don’t have enough range and take too long to charge." All my home charging happens overnight while I sleep. I wake up to a full charge each morning & never take time out of my schedule to charge during my normal driving. On road trips, Tesla Superchargers charge up to 30x faster than my home charging so when I’m traveling long distances I usually only stop to charge for about 15-30 minutes every 2-3 hours. 85% of households travel under 100 miles on a typical day, and nearly all electric vehicles have more than sufficient range to cover a typical household’s daily travel.
Myth #4: "Electric vehicles are unsafe and are a fire hazard." Media loves to show electric cars on fire because fear provokes a conversation especially with the novelty of EVs. The reality is that internal combustion engine vehicles catch fire at a higher rate when compared to electric vehicles. Tesla vehicles have been identified by the national government as some of the safest vehicles ever, with the Model 3 scoring the lowest probability of injury by any vehicle ever tested. Tesla’s impact report states that fire incidents are about 11x lower for Tesla vehicles than the average vehicle in the US.
Myth #5: "They cost way more than a gasoline car and are only successful because government incentives." Electric vehicles have usually been more expensive than gas cars, but prices have changed over the past decade. Now the average cost of a new car in the US is over $40,000. Tesla is no longer eligible for EV tax credits, yet they still increase sales. The Standard Range+ Model 3 starts at $40,000, and a Chevy Bolt starts at $31,000 for over 250 miles of range which is a great deal. There are many affordable electric vehicles including Nissan Ariya, Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro, and the single motor Cybertruck - all around $40,000 or under.

Currently in the US, there is a secret advantage for electric vehicle owners, especially Tesla owners, that nobody really talks about and it could save someone a lot of money especially in today’s gig economy where temporary, flexible jobs are more common than ever.
If I go pick up Uber & Lyft riders, I can use a free app called Stride to automatically track the miles that I drive picking up riders and I can claim those miles as a business expense. The cost of electricity will depend on location, but my off-peak electricity rate at home is around $0.08/kWh which is cheap so that is an advantage of where I live, but most areas should have an off-peak rate which is a cheaper rate at night when electric cars usually charge. My Model 3’s estimated range on a full charge is 312 miles the last time I checked which is amazing after 3+ years of driving and hopefully others have the same experience as me, but I’ll round down to 300 miles because I’m pretty sure my Tesla’s battery life is above average.
Even though not all Tesla owners have as many free miles as I do, there are many Tesla owners who have 1,000 free Supercharging miles after using a referral link to buy a Tesla OR by referring others like I have. However, Tesla does have a section in their legal document that’s titled Supercharger Fair Use, and it states the following: “To help ensure that Superchargers are available for their intended use, unless you charge on a pay per use basis, we ask that you not charge your vehicle using a Supercharger if your vehicle is being used: as a taxi; for ride-sourcing or ride-sharing; to commercially deliver or transport goods; for government purposes; or for any other commercial venture.”
It states that it does not apply to the owners who are on a pay per use basis, which probably all new owners from the past few years including me are on. And even if I did not have free Supercharging, the cost of Supercharging is still cheaper than gas and with any electric vehicle it’s possible to charge for free at certain hotels and at public parking spots which cannot be done with a gas car. To make it even weirder, if you are self employed and have a dedicated home office you should be able to claim a percentage of your utility bills based on the size of your home office. So not only am I able to deduct my business mileage, I’m also able to deduct 10% of my electric bill each month as a business expense, and of course the largest portion of my electric bill is from, you guessed it: charging my Tesla. Again, this is not legal advice so always consult your tax professional, but I have a CPA who had done my taxes for years and from the looks of it if you own your own business or are self employed and you need a vehicle for business purposes, an electric vehicle and in most cases a Tesla specifically is one of the best options. Another advantage for ride sharing a Tesla is that it most likely qualifies as a luxury vehicle so not only does it save money on gas but it also makes more money than a regular car if a rider chooses the luxury option.

People buy a Tesla for many reasons: fast performance, Autopilit/Full Self-Driving, or 300+ miles of range. But there’s one unique advantage Tesla had that made me comfortable in choosing it as my first electric vehicle, but now that is changing. Tesla Superchargers are placed alongside major highways so that anyone can travel pretty much anywhere in the country in a Tesla just by charging at Superchargers along the way.
A high electric vehicle range doesn't matter if it doesn't have access to fast-charging stations that allow long distance trips without having to wait hours for the car to charge. If you’ve seen my Tesla road trip videos you’ll know that if you’re going to road trip in an electric vehicle then a Tesla provides the most convenient experience.
Tesla is selling a lot vehicles & their main goal is to keep selling as many vehicles as possible, so the more Tesla vehicles they sell, the more there are on the road, and the busier Tesla Superchargers will be which brings the risk of people waiting in line to charge.
Later this year, Tesla is opening up their Superchargers to other electric vehicles. But will they charge a higher rate for non-Tesla EVs to charge at Superchargers? That may increase revenue and speed up the installs of future Supercharger stations.
According to Elon Musk, when Tesla first came out with their Superchargers, they introduced their own proprietary charging connector for North America because there was no other solution for fast charging other than CHAdeMO which was bulky and supported only 62.5 kW, while Tesla quite quickly moved to 120 kW & higher. All Tesla Superchargers in North America use the proprietary Tesla connector, but Tesla was forced to make their Superchargers compatible with CCS in Europe so will they do the same thing here in the US?
I think the best way would be for Tesla to offer CCS-to-Tesla adapters that non-Tesla owners can purchase if they want to use Superchargers, and they can just keep the adapter in their car which seems like an easy thing to do which will unlock access to thousands of more chargers than before. The solution would be for Tesla to also offer a Tesla-to-CCS adapter for Tesla owners to buy so they can utilize all CCS DC-fast chargers such as Electrify America. I’m all for widespread EV adoption but if I pull up to a full Supercharger station and I see a bunch of slower charging EVs taking up all the spots I wouldn’t be too thrilled. On the other hand, if you take a more positive look, the non-Tesla owners who charge at Superchargers may realize how much more convenient it would be to have a Tesla which may lead to more interested Tesla buyers in the long run.
I wish there wasn’t this disconnect in the EV charging standards because in a perfect world there would be one fast-charging standard connector that all manufacturers were willing to use so all electric vehicles could benefit from all public charging stations.

Tesla just offered a new pricing model for full self-driving with monthly FSD subscriptions. Is it worth it? Let's find out!
According to Tesla, Full Self-Driving Capability will eventually allow the car to drive itself in all conditions, and Tesla’s main selling point for this was to insist that the price of Full Self Driving Capability would steadily increase over time so there was urgency for customers to lock in Full Self Driving at what appeared to be the lowest price it would ever be offered at.
The $10,000 FSD software upgrade includes all the features that made up the old Enhanced Autopilot with the addition of the Full Self-Driving Computer, Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, and a future promised feature of Autosteer on city streets which is a feature that was supposed to come years ago but as Elon recently mentioned on Twitter “Generalized self-driving is a hard problem, as it requires solving a large part of real-world AI." You’ve probably seen some YouTube videos recently showing FSD Beta 9 that’s currently only enabled on a small number of Tesla vehicles that are testing it in the wild before it gets pushed to all Tesla vehicles sometime this year.
Many Tesla owners decided that it was a good idea to buy Full Self Driving capability at $10,000 with the belief that it would be worth it and that Tesla would deliver level 5 autonomy at some point during their car ownership because the other catch is: Full Self Driving stays with the car, not the owner.
Now Full Self Driving Capability can be purchased for a one time fee of $10,000 or if your Tesla has FSD computer 3.0 or above, you can subscribe to FSD capability from the Tesla app or your Tesla Account for the following price: $199/month if you only have basic Autopilot or $99/month if you previously purchased Enhanced Autopilot.
My 2018 Model 3 came with hardware 2.5 but I bought FSD capability in 2019 so I was eligible for a free upgrade to the hardware 3.0 computer last year which Tesla installed at no cost to me. But in 2016 Tesla released a blog post titled “All Tesla Cars Being Produced Now Have Full Self-Driving Hardware” and went on to say “We are excited to announce that, as of today, all Tesla vehicles produced in our factory – including Model 3 – will have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver.”
If you don’t plan to keep your Tesla for more than 5 years it makes sense to just do the FSD subscription because it is monthly and can be canceled at any time. If you’re bullish & optimistic about Tesla’s delivery of level 5 autonomy and the regulatory approvals, and if you drive a lot & plan to keep your current Tesla for a fairly long time then it may make sense to just purchase FSD for $10,000 before it potentially goes up again.
I bought FSD so that I could share the progress on YouTube, and also because I do drive more than the average driver & plan to keep my Model 3 for at least 10 years so I’ve gotten my use out of it, but for most people who aren’t driving a lot but instead upgrading their Tesla every 2-3 years then it makes sense to do the FSD monthly subscription.

Rivian R1T comes standard with 300+ miles of range with an option to upgrade to 400+ miles of range for $10,000, and there’s a future cheaper version coming at some point that will have a 250 mile battery. All versions feature a quad-motor powertrain with a 0-60 speed in as little as 3 seconds with the ability to drive through 3 feet of water, rock crawl at a 100% grade, 14” of ground clearance, and can tow up to 11,000 pounds.
Tesla Cybertruck can sit up to 6 people, tow up to 14,000 pounds, has 100 cubic feet of lockable storage including an automatic tonneau cover that is strong enough to stand on which goes over the 6.5 ft bed. It has a payload capacity up to 3,500 pounds with adjustable air suspension. Tri-motor version has 500+ miles of range and goes 0-60mph in under 3 seconds. Like all Tesla vehicles it comes standard with Autopilot and access to over 25,000 global Tesla Superchargers.
Ford F150 Lightning is Ford’s all new fully electric pickup truck coming in Spring of 2022 and starting at around $40,000 and can be configured up to $90,000 with a Platinum edition. At launch, it will be offered only as a crew-cab with a 5.5-foot bed but one of the big advantages it has over the old gas F150 is the large front trunk called the Mega Power Frunk for 14.1 cubic feet of storage space which is the largest out of all electric pickup trucks.
The GMC Hummer EV pickup truck comes standard with all wheel drive with up to 1000 horsepower from its top powertrain option, which uses 3 electric motors and offers an estimated range of 350 miles on a full charge with a 0-60 speed of 3 seconds. It features an infinity roof with modular sky panels, an optional adjustable air suspension called extract mode which lifts approximately 6”, and crab walk which utilizes the 4 wheel steer ability to turn the rear wheels 10 degrees in either direction allowing it to drive diagonally at low speeds for traversing nearly any type of terrain.
Lordstown Endurance claims to be the world's first all-electric commercial pickup. Atlas XT’s most unique advantage is the world’s first AMV battery cells that were developed specifically for automotive use and will function at 1,600 volts but be backward compatible with current CCS DC fast chargers. The battery pack can subdivide itself into 800 or 400-volt components. This means the Atlis XT truck could charge from 0 to 100% in 15 minutes.
Canoo Pickup is a futuristic, modular all-electric pickup truck. The price is still unknown at this time but will have around 200 miles of range and 600 horsepower with options for a dual or rear-motor configuration along with a payload capacity of 1800 pounds.
Chevy Silverado EV is said to provide up to 400 miles of range on a full charge and just like the Hummer EV, it should be available with up to 3 electric motors depending on the trim with all-wheel drive likely being standard. Fisker Alaska is still just a rumor at this time.
As an Amazon Associate & partner for other affiliate programs I earn from qualifying purchasesThe Mystery Behind the New Tesla Model SAndy Slye2021-06-28 | Sponsored: To potentially win an Electric 1968 Porsche 912 EV and support a great cause go to omaze.com/andyslyeporsche The new Tesla Model S/X has a hidden feature that Tesla isn't telling us about.
When Tesla first launched the Model S nearly a decade ago, they would assign a number to each model based on the corresponding size of the battery pack so for example, Model S 75D meant it had a 75 kWh battery pack and the D stood for dual motor.
Elon Musk announced the new carbon-sleeved rotors which sound like they’re the first of their kind for any production electric motor and he mentioned the newly designed heat pump with increased efficiency, but he quickly mentioned something else right before announcing the motor.
Before last week’s Plaid event, some people were speculating that the new Plaid Model S and X would contain the new 4680 batteries, but now it’s pretty obvious that the new models don’t have the new 4680 cells because if they did, Tesla would have definitely mentioned it at the event, and the specs would have reflected it. This along with the fact that, just one week prior to the Plaid event, Tesla announced the cancellation of their upcoming Plaid+ model which makes me wonder: What exactly is the status of the new 4680 battery cells and what batteries are being used in this all new battery pack?
If Tesla does indeed plan to go through with the 600+ mile Roadster in the next year then a Plaid+ just doesn’t make sense unless Elon changes his mind about the range and then if it’s based solely on range, it could make sense to have all the range milestones covered: 400 miles for Model S, 500 miles for Plaid+ and 600 miles for Roadster.
The amount of kWh is probably safe to assume to fall somewhere between 100 and 115 kWh given that it was 100 kWh in the latest 2020 Model S. But are these new Model S and X vehicles the first of their kind to use the 2170 battery cells that have only been used in the Model 3 and Y so far?
If we assume the all new battery pack has 2170 cells, what else would make the Plaid’s battery pack be “new and redesigned”, if it’s not the 4680 cells yet? According to the updated Model S user manual, the new battery pack nominal voltage is 450V so assuming a 3.6 nominal cell voltage, this means that the new battery pack could very well be 125 cells in series instead of the old 96 cells in series. It seems that it is if you extrapolate a Model 3 battery to 100 kWh, which is what the new Model S and X batteries most likely are.
Those fast charging speeds along with the new higher voltage and possible switch to the 2170 cells could add up to be the “all-new battery pack” but the question still remains: What is the status of the 4680 batteries and was that the real reason why the Plaid+ was nixed?
The 4680 battery cells have been in production at a pilot factory in Fremont, and Elon said it would take about about a year to reach the 10-gigawatt-hour capacity for the pilot. That is very true given that their two biggest factory priorities are Giga Berlin and Giga Texas, both are being built for the production of the new 4680 batteries, and Tesla’s next flagship vehicles: the cybertruck, the semi truck, and the Roadster all will be reliant on those new batteries.

All the non-performance versions of the Model 3 & Model Y got yet another $500 price increase due to supply shortages.
It's also been confirmed that the passenger lumbar support has been removed from the Model 3 & Model Y. Elon Musk tweeted: “Moving lumbar was removed only in front passenger seat of 3/Y. Logs showed almost no usage. Not worth cost/mass for everyone when almost never used. Prices increasing due to major supply chain price pressure industry-wide. Raw materials especially”
Tesla just announced the official transition to Tesla Vision, their new camera-based Autopilot system. Starting in May 2021, all North American Model 3 and Model Y vehicles will no longer be equipped with radar. These will be the first Tesla vehicles to rely only on camera vision and the neural net to deliver Autopilot and Full-Self Driving features. All new Model S & Model X + all vehicles outside of North America will continue to have radar until Tesla determines the appropriate time to transition those vehicles to Tesla Vision.
Tesla is choosing not to use radar as well which has brought concerns to some people who are skeptical about a vision-only system, claiming it could face challenges in the dark, or bright sunny glare, or poor weather which are all conditions where radar would theoretically help.
Tesla’s reasoning to go to cameras is mainly that if a human can safely drive a vehicle without a radar, then artificial intelligence with just cameras can too, and hopefully do it even better. There have been Reddit posts of people claiming that the radar-less Tesla Vision is inferior to the previous radar-enabled Autopilot. The initial rollout of Tesla Vision will be limited at first but I certainly hope the Autopilot and FSD experience gets better soon for the pure Tesla Vision and I hope they don’t require auto high beam for Autopilot at night.
Tesla is finally deploying its new driver monitoring system in the latest software update where the release notes say: “The cabin camera above your rearview mirror can now detect and alert driver inattentiveness while Autopilot is engaged." This not only should improve the safety but in the future it can hopefully be used in connection with or even separate from the steering wheel nag which requires the driver to keep a hand on the wheel when Autopilot is engaged.
Some code found on Tesla’s website hints to a possible price increase of Full Self Driving to $14,000. This isn’t confirmed, but it could definitely come whenever the FSD subscription model is released.
The new 2021 refreshed Model S & X infotainment systems will be powered by AMD Ryzen processors & AMD GPUs which should be a big step up in performance. Tesla recently filed a new trademark under restaurant services which may finally bring to life that 50s diner Supercharger that Elon talked about years ago.

This is every dollar I've ever spent on my 2018 Long Range Tesla Model 3 after 3 years of ownership and 75,000+ miles. Many electric vehicles in the US still qualify for a $7,500 tax federal tax credit, and there may be a new upcoming tax credit in the US that will allow for even more manufacturers, such as Tesla and GM, to take advantage of a tax credit for customers. I’ve owned Tesla’s cheapest vehicle, the Model 3, for just over 3 years now and in this video I’ll go over every single dollar I’ve ever spent on my Tesla up to this point.
The front bumper on a Tesla is flat so there is a decent sized area of paint where a traditional grille would be on a gas car, and after seeing many other Tesla owners recommendations I decided to get the entire front end of my Model 3 covered in a clear paint protection film called Xpel. This is not necessary for all Tesla owners, but I’d guess that the majority of Tesla owners get some type of PPF and since I drive way more than the average driver and plan to keep my car for a long time I wanted to protect the front of my car from rock chips and bugs, and to be honest it’s been worth it for me.
That’s the thing with EVs and especially Teslas, they have such quick instant torque and can get up to high speeds without even realizing it because they’re so smooth and quiet so that speeding ticket cost me $203 which is why I hate driving in Indiana now. I’m not a speed demon by any means, but I usually set autopilot to 10 miles over the speed limit on freeways and the radar detector helps alert me of hidden speed traps which hopefully saves me some money going forward. I also had to pay a $500 deductible a couple years ago when something flew up and hit my bumper which went through the paint protection film and through the paint so my insurance covered the cost to have a body shop replace the bumper and have the PPF re-installed on the front bumper.
My annual renewal fee for my Tesla Model 3 was $470 in 2019 and $423 in 2020 and if we estimate $400 for this year that comes to a total of $1293 for annual registration fees so far. Up until now I’ve gotten free rotations at a local tire shop, but due to my schedule I was forced to finally pay for a Tesla mobile technician to come do it at my location, but it’s only $50 which isn’t bad especially since they’re coming to me.
Last but not least, I love being able to track my Tesla’s charging stats and see useful info about my car with the Tesla Stats app which cost me $20 when I bought it years ago. So I’ve spent an additional $14,000 after the initial upfront cost, which is an average of about $4,600 per year with most of that being large one time expenses like the charger installation, paint protection film, and full self driving software along with big recurring expenses like insurance, annual registration, and charging. But my plan is to keep my Model 3 for at least 7 more years and see if it can eventually make me money with Tesla’s future robotaxi service.

For the longest time I was against the idea of getting an electric bicycle because one of the best things about riding a bike is the workout. I thought an electric bike would defeat that purpose, but when Serial 1 reached out and asked if I wanted to review their brand new RUSH/CTY eBike powered by Harley Davidson I felt like this e-bike has the best chance of converting me into a believer. I’ve been a Tesla owner for 3 years and after riding the Serial 1 e-bike around my city I can honestly say a lot of the things that made me fall in love with my Tesla also apply to this bike.
Serial 1 electric bike comes in 2 models: Mosh & Rush. Most are Class 1 up to 20 mph while the top end model (Rush Speed) is Class 3 up to 28 mph. A unique perk about getting a Harley Davidson e-bike is that you can test ride them at certain dealerships. My Tesla Model 3 has a minimalist design which is one of my favorite features of the car and it’s nice to have the same feeling with the Serial 1 bike. When the bike is powered on it illuminates the front facing Serial 1 logo, and it also has rear LED braking lights when coming to a stop thanks to the built in accelerometer. It also has a bright front LED headlight. My Tesla has made me fall in love with the feeling of instant torque, and this is one of the biggest benefits of this e-bike when compared to a non-electric bike.
You can turn the bike on or off with the front facing power switch, then you can use the rear buttons to turn the headlight on or off, toggle between the different displays including current trip length and time, estimated range remaining, average speed, max speed, and odometer. The up & down switch toggles between the 4 different ride modes including Eco mode for a small amount of support in flat and less demanding conditions, Tour mode for the optimal mix of support and battery economy in changing driving conditions, Sport mode for strong support from tight corners or over gentle hills, and Boost mode for tackling a steep incline, strong headwind, or other conditions that require extended assistance.
I found myself using Eco for most of my city riding because I wanted to maximize my battery range, and I also liked the feeling of getting a nice workout. That alone makes it such a fun experience because you’re still getting exercise, but it allows you to ride faster and further so you’re seeing more sights or different areas that you normally wouldn’t see on a manual bike. Traveling by bike is the most energy efficient method of transportation so if you’re able to replace your car with an e-bike you could ride to work & wouldn’t show up drenched in sweat because of the motor helping you especially when using the more assistive ride modes like Sport and Boost.
Serial 1 has a minimalist seamless design, it feels like a premium ride with responsive handling & fast speeds, it takes advantage of the latest technology, it’s energy efficient & low maintenance, it has great range compared to normal bikes, and it’s a blast to ride.

Today we’re going over the biggest Tesla news stories including the latest price increases for Model 3 & Model Y, Elon Musk’s big secret that was revealed on Saturday Night Live, and some interesting discoveries about the new Cybertruck after it hit the streets of New York. First let’s talk about the high demand of Teslas and how it’s been causing some ripple effects in the company and its products.
Tesla has already sold out of their entire production capacity for Q2. This is impressive and probably due to the restart of the new Model S production and an increase in Model Y production, but Model 3 is still a widely successful seller. The high Tesla demand is great for the company but probably not the best news if you currently have a Tesla on order or if you’re planning to order a Tesla soon since the wait times for delivery may be longer than normal.
Since Tesla doesn’t need to incentivize more demand right now there’s a rumor that they are completely revamping their referral program after spending 23 million dollars on free Supercharging last quarter alone. The program will be more of a person-to-person system based on a new software update for the Tesla app.
Model 3 & Model Y prices have increased again, the 4th time in 2 months. The steady flow of small price increases could be a result of Tesla anticipating a potential EV tax credit that is rumored to come later this year which would definitely spike more demand and require manufacturers to adjust their prices accordingly.
The Cybertruck doesn’t have any side mirrors and we don’t know for sure if that will be the final design, but if if is, there are side rear view cameras that are discreetly built in to the black trim above the tires. It was the first time I saw a clear image of where they’re located, and these cameras will be used for Autopilot and could potentially be used as a viable alternatives to physical side mirrors if the regulatory laws allow it.
5 years ago Elon was asked how long it would take to achieve fully autonomous vehicles and he said he really would consider autonomous driving to be "basically a solved problem". That is around the time when one of my favorite Tesla jokes was born when a Twitter user tweeted at Elon and asked at what point will “Full Self-Driving Capability” features noticeably depart from "Enhanced Autopilot" features, in which Elon replied “3 months maybe, 6 months definitely”. Last month Elon tweeted that Tesla is hoping to release FSD Beta to more owners in May so we’ll see if that ends up being true. Also if it’s true that Tesla’s goal is having "1 or 2 million miles per driver interaction" before moving to higher levels of autonomy that would mean if the amount of FSD Beta testers reaches 1000 and each driver travels 1000 miles per month, then only one driver out of the 1000 would be able to intervene, only once.

Tesla Autopilot has been in the news lately following a horrific car crash in Texas featuring a 2019 Model S in which the cops said they were sure that nobody was in the driver seat. However, Elon Musk tweeted that "Data logs recovered so far show Autopilot was not enabled & this car did not purchase FSD. Moreover, standard Autopilot would require lane lines to turn on, which this street did not have." Elon also said that "Tesla with Autopilot engaged is now approaching 10 times lower chance of accident than average vehicle."
After driving my Tesla Model 3 with Autopilot and Full Self Driving for 3 years, I wanted to share my experience with Tesla Autopilot and explain how it works, what the limits are, and whether I think it's safe.
