Python for A-Level Mathematics and Beyond, a talk by Stephen Lynch (Manchester Metropolitan University)
Abstract
Programming languages such as Scratch and Python are making more and more of an impact on school teaching around the world. Following the publications of the Blackett Review (Computational Modelling: Technological Futures) and the Bond Report (The Era of Mathematics – Review Findings on Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences) in 2018, is it now time to introduce programming to Mathematics teachers, A-Level students, undergraduates and postgraduates in the UK?
About the Speaker
Stephen Lynch is the Deputy Head of the Department of Computing and Mathematics at Manchester Metropolitan University, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA), a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Chair of the North West Branch of the IMA. He has been programming in his teaching and research for over 30 years and has published books on Python, Maple, MATLAB and Mathematica. He has recently started running virtual one-day Python workshops for teachers in the UK.
